He is and its a fair counter, but I would argue there is a far more significant and global message sent out when a global major sporting event is allowed to endorse countries with state govrenments such as these.

Biggish you're assuming that FIFA actually wants to send out a significant and global message. Whichever country will line up their pockets, they will run there.

ps Nothing to do with our own failed bid, we were just as guilty of bribes as the next man, but these two countries respective records for state led corruption, anti democratic governance, racism, anti gay culture and abuse of human rights tarnish the staging of what was once the greatest major sports event in the world.

It is still a popular event. Unless you have doubts about these two countries of organising such competition to the expected standards as a result devalue this competition.

I don't agree SWTN as its just hypocritical to say that Russia and Qatar are evils.Would you think about boycotting a World Cup which might take place in USA which has killed so many people recently and in the past and started many wars without any reason.Why is FIFA U-17 World Cup taking place in India when it has killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people in Kashmir.In my opinion sports and politics should be kept separate.

P.S there are more g ays and homosexuals in Qatar in total percentage of population as compared to European countries where all this gay stuff is permitted.

the world cup has been held in fascist era Italy, in Argentina just after a brutal military junta, in, S Africa, Germany, in Japan etc
