In truth both France and the UKgov are at fault. There are clearly defined dispute resolution protocols in the TCA which neither side are keeping to.
However I do have some sympathy for the French as the UKgov has made the (political) decision to hold up/delay French permits. As they sold the TCA to the UK public claiming the UK had 'taken back control' of its fishing territories, when in fact it had not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can you tell me why it's OK for French fishing boats to not have proof of having fished in the relevant waters before, and why the UK should let them fish there anyway? There is a unified response from the Tories and the stand in Labour guy Ed Miliband.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As I understand it there are no provisions in the TCA in respect of historic access to waters - but quotas for each MS.
The fact is, this is the new normal, and disputes such as this will be played out (irrespective if merited or not) for years to come. From memory, post 2025, permits/quotas will be negotiated annually. What could go wrong...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There’s also an element of the media blowing these kind of disagreements out of proportion in terms of what we might have sensibly expected.
The UK is in a brand new trade relationship with a behemoth of a partner on its doorstep, both trying to work out the practicalities of a lightweight, rushed, hole-ridden, bodge of a deal which neither party was really remotely happy with when it was signed.
It would be an absolute miracle if all had gone smoothly.
A deal the shape and size of which needed a decade of negotiations was done in a tenth of the time. It was a nonsensical endeavour, and the results are predictably nonsense.

Ok so I’ve read your link. So according to the study linked, the predictions of global temperatures has been more accurate than previously thought and that newer models are also more accurate as they have matured and become more sophisticated.
That’s a fair précis, right?
It is always fair to assume a large variance when it comes to predictions and that’s fine by me, I’m not going to moan much if a prediction is 10% out for example.
My issue is about the consequences of the temperature rises. So for example, your given example of 20/30 years millions of acres will be desert/flooded. Which therefore means we must take action. What I am saying is that there have been numerous of these consequence predictions that have not come to pass.
The Maldives would be underwater by now (three years ago in fact) as predicted in 2018
Was England not predicted to be gone by 2000?
In 1986, the Environmental Protection Agency’s Jim Titus predicted that the sea level around Florida would rise two feet by 2020, The Miami Herald reported.
0.203
According to NOAA, the sea level at Virginia Key has risen by about 9 centimeters, which works out to 3.54 inches.
And so on, there are plenty of examples.
So my point is that no-one is even debating global temperatures rising (that’s obvious and cyclical) but what we are questioning are two things:
1. Are the effects of the rises we are seeing actually causing what is being predicted?
2. Are the changes we are pushing for going to cause a net benefit or not? How do we stop developing countries from developing. It’s all good saying we should push them to be grow in a ‘cleaner’ fashion; but how is that paid for? It’s still too expensive for these countries to do this. What’s the plan with countries like China etc. The debate about China is not ‘look how much they’re pumping into the atmosphere’ it’s ‘what happens to China (and other poorer countries) if we stop manufacturing there or reduce it as Tam said? Well the answer is pretty obvious not anyone willing to be honest, it will mean a reduction in production, a reduction in jobs, a reduction in GDP and therefore an increase in poverty and all the negatives that come with that.
I look forward to your or anyone proposals that they have read about or their own personal suggestions as to how we go about making things cleaner but not causing a different catastrophe in terms of jobs/GDP/poverty as a direct consequence.
This is a genuine debate and if you (Insert) or Tam are tired of discussing things with me or anyone else, then feel free not to. But if there are ideas or solutions out there that I am not aware of, then I’d like to hear them.
It’s not like I want the planet to die or that you want people to be poor.

India, like China, can legitimately ask why they cannot have what europe and America have from industrialization, so the so called developed nations have to provide alternatives or money for developing nations, via Cop26, but will they, can they or even should they fund China or India to Not develop and industrialise further?

The UK is in a brand new trade relationship with a behemoth of a partner on its doorstep, both trying to work out the practicalities of a lightweight, rushed, hole-ridden, bodge of a deal which neither party was really remotely happy with when it was signed.
It would be an absolute miracle if all had gone smoothly.
A deal the shape and size of which needed a decade of negotiations was done in a tenth of the time. It was a nonsensical endeavour, and the results are predictably nonsense.

Just had a look at the fisheries management part of the TCA, and talk about being open to interpretation
(a) each Party shall communicate in sufficient time to the other Party a list of vessels for which it
seeks to obtain authorisations or licences to fish; and
(b) the other Party shall issue authorisations or licences to fish.
By 31 January of each year, the Parties shall cooperate to set the schedule for consultations
with the aim of agreeing TACs for the stocks listed in Annex FISH.1 for the following year or years. That
This document has been agreed between the European Union and the United Kingdom and is provided for information only.
No rights may be derived from it until the date of application. The numbering of the articles is provisional. Schedule shall take into account other annual consultations among coastal States that affect either orboth of the Parties.
The Parties shall hold consultations annually to agree, by 10 December of each year, the TACs
for the following year for the stocks listed in Annex FISH.1. This shall include an early exchange of
views on priorities as soon as advice on the level of the TACs is received. The Parties shall agree those TACs."

And it was just al gore there were others mentioned, you’re just sticking to al gore and the maybes/could be/might possibly type caveats.
As I asked; are these predictions also could bes and maybes? Or are they definitive?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps you should actually read the links provided to you, before continuing the conversation
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair enough
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so I’ve read your link.
I look forward to your or anyone proposals that they have read about or their own personal suggestions as to how we go about making things cleaner but not causing a different catastrophe in terms of jobs/GDP/poverty as a direct consequence.
posted on 1/11/21
This is a genuine debate and if you (Insert) or Tam are tired of discussing things with me or anyone else, then feel free not to.

David Attenborough tackles the elephant in the room too on global over population, trebling in his lifetime, and putting so much more pressure on the planet, But, how do we tackle that minefield also?
