They're trying to get it sorted in Westminster rather than through party members who generally would only vote for a white male candidate.

How is that possible? I thought it’s the party rules that the membership have to choose the leader.

Inland Revenue experts are investigating the tax affairs of new chancellor and Tory leadership hopeful Nadhim Zahawi, The Independent can reveal.

HMRC became involved after a secret inquiry was initially launched into Mr Zahawi’s finances by the National Crime Agency (NCA) in 2020. The Independent has also established that officers from the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) investigated the chancellor’s financial affairs.

Telegraph: ‘Javid and Hunt call for massive cuts to taxation’

It’s going to be a race to the bottom. These two have pledged to scrap the baked-in corporation tax rise, and instead *cut* it to 15%. They both want to scrap NI rises (to “stimulate job creation” during an historic labour shortage ). Javid has said he wants to cut income tax, and (at least temporarily) fuel duty.

Expect others to follow suit, and the likes of inheritance tax and corporate gains tax to come into the discussion.

I think we’re about to see, at least performatively, tax receipts plummet at a time when the economy desperately needs interventional stimulus and investment in infrastructure.

The Express is the worst of the lot recently. Which is some achievement given the competition out there.

The levels of gaslighting going on by many members of the right wing these last couple of days on Twitter etc is quite jaw dropping. Apparently it was all those nasty remoaners who made Boris lie hundreds of times and break laws. Why are people so dumb?

Will the NHS still get the £350m a week BoJo promised?
