Jeremy Hunt has just said McVey would be his deputy PM if he got the job, I think that’s a huge opportunity to write him off from the leadership now.

His way of broadening his appeal to the party membership. Either way I don't think he will make the final 2

She has done already, reiterating her comments.

Really, it’s quite bizarre that the Conservative Party membership would want to hang the Party over this issue.

The majority of Britons - both men and women, and across *all* age demographics - believe that a person should be able to self-identify as a gender different to that ascribed by the sexx they were born in.

The majority of Britons agree with the statement that “A trans woman is a women, and a trans man is a man.”

I know the Tories still believe there is wider value to them in trying to maintain and further entrench Brexit polarisation by engineering a culture war, but the public just isn’t buying it, and if their strategists have a clue, they’ll pivot away back to the economy or elsewhere post haste.

All of these leadership candidates are spouting the same right wing shiiiit to appeal to the 100,000 very ageing Tory membership. They’re gonna decide their fate, not us.

For the next two years (tops), yep.

Then the public will have to decide whether it really wants the UK to continue down its current path.

It does amaze me how so many people view culture war bullsh!t above actual issues like the economy.

"They can't even define a woman".

Trans people account for something like 2% of the population, is that really the biggest issue in the UK right now during a cost of living crisis?

It's great to see them tear themselves apart over it though.

Grant Shapps seemingly alone among Conservative candidates in dismissing the trans women question.

"Let people live their lives," he tells Sky.

"I just don't think we need to get caught up in some US-style debate and aggressive war on these issues. It's just not necessary."

That’s him out of the race then.

I really don't think that average Conservative Party member voter gives a flying fig about the 'trans woman question', certainly as a deal breaker. Unless candidates are suggesting sending them all to Rwanda.

Grant Shapps always comes across as an ok guy IMO. Can be politically incompetent, has many contrasting views with me and I wouldn't really want him running the country, but I reckon I could go for a beer with him.

He was quite outspoken about IVF treatment being a postcode lottery, which having experienced that with my wife; I have a lot of respect for.
