I didn't make the leap to Holocaust when I read his comments, but it was an absurd comparison.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Has anybody actually read his comment, ffs

I don’t know how many times this is going to have to be posted, but…

He
Didn’t
Compare
Present
Day
Britain
Or
The
Policies
Of
Its
Government
To
1930s
Germany
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nevertheless if you are going to refer to a period in time I don't think you can isolate a component. The language at that time represents the culture and atmosphere of thattime. I don't agree you can choose a single component and isolate it from the social environment it belongs to.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well Lineker facking did.

He referred CLEARLY AND SPECIFICALLY to the language used by certain elements of the government and compared that with 1930s Germany.

Are you arguing that we should judge him based on something he didn’t say?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not judging him I share his views but I stand by my view that 1930s Germany language was a crazy comparison. At least I have an open mind onthe matter. You seem totally partizan.

Suella Braverman has said she will not apologise for her language after a Holocaust survivor told the Home Secretary her description of migrants as an “invasion” was akin to rhetoric the Na zis used to justify murdering her family.

"When I hear you using words against refugees like ‘swarms’ and an ‘invasion’, I am reminded of the language used to dehumanise and justify the murder of my family and millions of others."

Words have consequences.

On the whole MOTD thing, the way it's been dealt with by the Beeb is very very similar to how the Tories have dealt with so many problems lately and lurched from one disaster to another. Just basically dismissing any view that goes against their own and behaved with a total disregard for what the consequences of their actions would be.

Such a total lack of foresight and arrogance to not expect the response that came to standing Lineker down and not having any idea on what to do about it. It's shambolic. Again, a word that best encapsulates every response the actions of the Tories to problems they've created.

If you read the editorial guidelines, it actually uses an example of a sports presenter (which is what Lineker is) using social media to make a political point (which is what lineker did) is a “low risk” activity in this context. Given this was the specific anecdotal example used, I’d say he hasn’t “broken company impartiality rules multiple times” unless of course you have had sight of the company rules you refer to and can share them?

He won't get sacked.BBC is onthe backfoot here. I could see a slight compromise or clarification from Lineker on his tweet, but only slight, but he won't give up his right to free speech. BBC will make the bigger compromise imo
