I don't get the objections to photo ID's for voting.

It's much harder to get a physical 'Proof of Address' letter these days.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The issues are calming to solve a problem which does not exist and will disenfranchise people, particularly the less well off (who by shear coincidence are less likely to vote Tory)

Evidence from elsewhere in the world shows that such measures significantly disproportionately affect people from underprivileged communities.

Are they charging for the ID? Do you need ID to rent or get Universal Credit? Do you need ID to buy alcohol (for younger people)? Do you need ID to travel abroad? Do you need ID to get a bank account? Do you need ID to get a job?

If it’s free, I don’t think it’s the problem that the outraged make out.

I also don’t think there is a voter fraud problem but I have no issue with further ID as long as it’s ‘free’

It's possibly the case in Developing Countries but we're still a G7 nation despite 13 years of Tory misrule.

No problem so let's create a problem.
Let's force hard pressed councils to divert time and resources into an issue where there isn't a demand.

Plenty of less well off folk voted Tory at the last GE hence the 80 majority.

I think the turnout will be significantly down at the next GE if people have to show ID. Those who have to be practically dragged to the polling station will have an extra bit of aggravation that they can use as an excuse not to bother.

You need proof of address to get the ID most likely.

You'll probably also need access to a computer or to fill out forms to get the ID. The photos you need to supply for the ID most likely aren't free either.

It will disproportionately affect those who are disadvantaged in some way.

It will be interesting to see how many of the whingers will still be happy to endure the chaos at our airports this Summer when they're up against grumpy Border Force officials and faulty Biometric machines.

'if it aint broke......' everyone can see it's a tactic for their benefit, it's so blatant.

We've had to use ID here for years to vote. And it hasn't caused too many issues.

However be under no illusions why the Tories want to bring it in. To disenfranchise young voters, more inclined to vote for other parties, and protect the Conservative party.

If the government were in anyway interested in integrity, as they claim, they would not have voted against young people using student ID cards, or travelcards as a form of ID.

I’ve literally explained above.

Why do you think your tax contributions should be spent on this? What problem will it help solve? How will it improve the lives of the British people?

The minor issues we've had with voter fraud has been postal votes, how does voter ID, ID to be displayed prior to entering the voting booth, cure that?

Tbf tax contributions have been spend on far worse ideas and I don't have an issue with people legally having to confirm who they are..

Do you.

That's alright then, but, shouldn't we be clamping down on crap idea spending?

How many European Countries require government-issued photo ID to vote?

Is it hardly any? A small minority? 50/50? Majority? Or the vast vast majority?

hmmmmmm

It's really not something for anyone to be crying about nor theorising as to the intentions of the Conservatives for doing the same thing that the vast majority of other european nations do.
