Take a moment to absorb this. A minister is worried there might be peace in the Middle East, because people dying in Gaza plays well for them.

Just watching her now on QT. Absolutely disgraceful. Can't believe she was allowed to talk for so long making such wild accusations to be honest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The audience were consistently heckling her as well and she kept shouting ‘why are you laughing’

seemed strange that the BBC flew her over from Israel to make that rant on UK TV claiming that the British audience were not clever enough to understand the good and peaceful intentions of the IDF, without the chairwoman stopping her whilst the audience basically laughed at her.

US Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer has called for new elections in Israel, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of prioritising his "political survival" above the country.

Mr Schumer, a Democrat and the highest-ranking Jewish official in the US, said Mr Netanyahu had "lost his way".

Why has this war criminal enabler come to this realisation 5 months later?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is just posturing like all the other words coming out of the White House. If they really wanted to stop him they would stop giving him weapons. Schumer also said in the same statement that Gazan civilians that support Hamas are a major obstacle to peace.

It’s absolutely disgusting from QT to be putting on one of the most extreme journalists like that old bint on the same day the government are trying to shamefully stop it from happening
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have no problem with her being allowed as I stand by freedom of speech. My problem is they don't, and would never, allow the reverse without labeling the speaker antisemitic or some sheet like that.

I like it when these cavaliers come out because the open up the debating space to the real issues. Gloves come off. If this is the kind of radical guest they want to bring on then it's only fair they bring on the more radical on the other side as well.

Bit late to the party here but that woman on QT was unbelievable.

People weren't laughing at her, they were aghast at her BS.

The working day for MPs in the House of Commons has been shorter on average this parliamentary session than in any other in the past quarter century, according to a Financial Times analysis.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has been accused of presiding over a “zombie parliament”, with opposition parties arguing the relative shortness of the average parliamentary day shows an administration running “out of steam”.
“There’s very little going on day to day,” conceded one Conservative minister. A Labour insider argued some prime debating slots in the chamber were being dedicated to “niche” issues to fill time.
On Tuesday last week the Commons adjourned at 3.53pm, while on one Monday earlier this month almost five hours were dedicated to an unfocused “general debate on farming”, critics pointed out.

This is why they deserve a pay rise apparently.

I appreciate that right now there is probably too many freeloading, culture warriors more interested in moaning than legislating and who are stealing a wage in parliament right now, but, as a general rule, I've no problem with Mps getting a decent salary, on the understanding that if we pay peanuts we get monkeys, and it can involve long hours and is a never-off-the-clock profession.
There is no excuse for short hours or inane dribbling debates, the executive controls the order of business, through the leader of the house, and they alone should be held accountable not MPs.

There is absolutely nothing, at all, to support and give validity to yet another pay rise for MP’s.

It’d be less of an issue where it not for the widespread looting of expenses, but they coin it. Even the food subsidy is annoying.

They simply don’t deserve it.

They get plenty. The 80k is a base salary with further obey from expenses for travel, second homes etc. This was made apparent during the expenses scandal. I'm always amused seeing this argument made for MP's whilst never applied to other areas asking for a pay rise, such as those working in thr NHS for example. just to be able to keep up with rising bills and mortgages.

Let's also not forget that we see MP's offered £100k pa just to sit on a board once a month. They also get offered loads such as hospitality and tickets to major sports events from dubious lobbying groups.

I'd actually be quite happy with them getting quite a big payrise on the condition that MP's are banned from having second jobs.

Maybe bring some other rules in too about needing to spend x amount of days in parliament or holding constituent surgeries etc.

Yep, agree with this

I'd also like to see an end to the practice of revolving door politics when it comes to the important offices of state, health, education etc. We need more MP"s with actual lived experience in these areas not some provatley educated toff who wouldn't have a clue what going to a state school or NHS hospital is really like.

This will sound crazy, but I think they should be made to keep their promises in their manifestos and if they don’t, they should go.

Many MPs have a 2nd home in their constituency which in practice is just a box ticking exercise.

They can then sell that home at a good profit when they retire or lose their seat

They don't decide their salary, they vote on accepting it or not but they don't set it. Expenses, again, they submit for approval, they don't just throw in a receipt and take the money out a petty cash drawer and we have laws against corruption, see that fud from Blackpool as an example.
I'm all in favour of a serious overhaul and stiffening of the oversight and transparency of the admin side of their role, but, if I did a job with their irregular hours, where my every move was potentially going to be a scandal or a "gate" in the papers, where i had to deal with the biggest lunatics within the general public on a daily basis and had to sit in rooms with Jonathon Gillis or Sue Ellen Braverman, i'd want to be properly compensated.

I was just talking as a general rule, if we want good, competant, experienced people standing for office they should be rewarded relatively accordingly. The average company director earns approx £20k more than an MP for doing far, far less.

I mean I’d be happy if they just committed to four big policies spread over four years and that’s it, but you have to do it, or at least try.

Two elections ago, the stories promised to build thousands of houses. Next election rolls around and they had literally built zero.

I’d get rightly sacked for that, and so should they.

Absolutely.

We do have good, concientious constituency MPs, its unfair to tar them all as workshy, freeloading bubbleheads.

Ours are even worse but folk are so entrenched in their political views they’ll vote for them no matter what they do

"The average company director earns approx £20k more than an MP for doing far, far less".

I'd say the average company director is more accountable for their actions than the average MP. If a company director does a shiite job its reflected in the performance of the company, or shareholders if the company is public. They'll be given short shrift quick sharp. MP's by comparison can make promises in order to get elected renege on them but still be kept in post until the next election. The only way MP's seem to get sacked is by being a massive racist or not toeing the party line.

Yeah I agree. Theresa May, as terrible as she was as PM, is meant to actually be a really good local MP and constantly doing things within the community.

Can't say the same for mine however. She's been MP here for at least 10 years and I don't think I've ever seen her.
