They haven't said that schools will be banned from teaching young people about transgender identities though. The proposal is to stop schools teaching theories on gender identity as facts alongside biology. So they can still teach about transgender people, but are not allowed to state that some people are born into the wrong bodies as if it is a fact.

Thanks for clarifying and that’s perfectly fair.

It’s all well and good supporting transgenderism and wanting to help those who need it and wanting to limit bigotry about such issues. But there’s no denying that with topics as big as this, we must tread carefully as a society. I for one was glad to hear about the Tavistock Clinic change. Hormones & permanent surgery on children at this stage where we know very little and lot of the social drive for these practices have come from ideologues who are so childish in their approach of ‘just wanting to help’ without acknowledging that, as adults, we have to learn to carefully consider the consequences of our decisions.

This is a very simplistic hypothetical but it’s completely valid imo: if children were convinced that they were a different race (ie skin colour) and were being bleached to be more white or permanently increasing melanin content to look darker then I think a lot of people would think that something is wrong there and be cautious. And that’s just skin colour! Children cannot drink, smoke, drive, vote, work (part time 14), get a tattoo etc etc but they can have life changing hormone treatment and permanent surgery.

Sorry but the standards for such things has been far too low. We really need to stop listening to US social media influencers.

The only thing I have to say on the trans debate is that for a very small percentage of the population they get one hell of alot of air time. I keep out of it myself because like most folk I just can't imagine feeling like they do about their body.

I've been chatting to a few mates/family about what they would do if they were told the GE date in advance and asked if they wanted to chuck a few quid on. Unlike most on here the general attitude was too right, in life you have to grab these little wins when they come along.

Listening to Sky News anybody would think they'd shot the Pope and of course that's given Labour another open goal with Wes (think of the children) Streeting doing his concerned and disappointed voice.

Two reports have revealed the devastating effects of low wages and price increases under Conservative rule on the lives of 900,000 children, the Guardian’s Hazel Sheffield and Larry Elliott report.

Reports have highlighted the link between rising child poverty and slow wage growth under five Conservative governments since 2010 – the slowest growth since the second world war. Both main parties are proposing tough welfare spending plans.

Research by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) found that over the past 14 years, an additional 1,350 children a week in households with at least one working parent had been dragged into poverty.

Paul Nowak, the general secretary of the TUC, said: “No child in Britain should be growing up below the breadline. But under the Conservatives we have seen a huge rise in working households being pushed into poverty.”
