They have only been in power for 6 weeks or so and are still finding out the true level.of the mess this country is in. Im sure we will get a budget announcement when they are ready. Letes hope that the fat rich and greedy corporates and business are charged with funding what is required to fix the UK and not the working poor. Dont forget that the Tories wanted to cut benefits to pay for their own mess.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Who would you classify as fat rich and greedy corporates that can be successfully targeted to raise enough taxation to fix the UK without them making any number of potential moves that could be more damaging to the economy and workforce?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They can afford it. Also also tax the super rich individuals. They caused most of the mess

A lot more than the working poor pensioners and those on benefits can. Y
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Who are those companies?

As for super rich individuals, they will simply move their wealth. That is already happening.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Supermarketsenergy and utiity companies etc. have made record profits during covid and the 'COL' crisis. If indeed you need telling. Compay directors whode own personal incomes have rocketed in the same period who avoid tax. The gulf between rich and poor has widened massively. So those with the broadest soldiers must make up lions share to fix things. Imagine a plan to do so by cutting benefits of the poorest people in society to pay for the mess as the Torys propsed. Ffs.

Winter fuel allowance isn't being fully removed, pensioners (in England and Wales only) on pension benefits are still getting it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They’re also proactively contacting pensioners who are not accessing winter fuel payments when they are entitled to it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Are they? Wasn't aware of that and at least that's positive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

From the independent

‘ Pensioners whose weekly income is below £218.15 for a single person or £332.95 for a couple should check to see if they could be eligible for pension credit.

On top of the benefit, it is a gateway to support with housing costs, council tax, the TV licence, and the winter fuel payment worth up to £300.

The government’s new pension credit awareness drive will help identify households not claiming the benefit, and encourage them to apply by 21 December.
That is the final date for making a backdated claim for pension credit, in order to receive the winter fuel payment.

About 1.4 million pensioners already receive pension credit but up to an estimated 880,000 households eligible for the support fail to claim.

Many incorrectly believe they are not entitled, have been ruled out owing to savings, or say they do not like to accept what they regard as handouts.’

So all Labour have done is attempt to stop winter payments for those that don’t NEED them and are proactively trying to contact those that do.

The likes of the Daily Heil, Telegraph and S*n somehow seem to have missed this in their reporting.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's good that they are proactively trying to help claimants.

I still believe far too many will suffer as a result of this and they won't be from the well heeled backgrounds

Well that’s down to the energy companies, who have managed to post record profits during an ‘energy crisis’.

Those profits were in the past, so unless there is evidence of further "excessive" profiteering as result of them continuing to benefit from anything other than day to day trading (eg a Force Majeure), then it's just simply increasing taxes which I alluded to earlier.

As they've ruled out employee income taxation and national insurance rises,, then personal incomes won't be a target. Unless of course they change their minds again.

So effectively, all that's covered here is a rise in corporation tax. Again which I alluded to earlier. Do that and companies will react.

No. It's down to the removal of allowances. Tax these companies all anyone likes. All I'm saying is that there will be an adverse reaction and it may well be worse if they stop investing and employing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I completely agree. All I'm asking is for some semblance of who exactly is going "to pay" and how?

If you are going to the population and asking for 10 years of service at the top with a statement that things will just get worse before they get better, don't you think that when spending money we don't yet have on wage rises for train drivers and the like without any form of a return in improvement, and above inflation wages to junior doctors again without any agreement on how things could be bettered might not be the best of first moves to be made?

Particularly when one of those parties announce immediately they will go back on strike and the other that they will most likely do the same next year?

And at the same time reduce pensioners heating allowances as we head into colder months after a shiitshow of a summer when many had to keep their heating on?

I expected better to be honest and certainly not just to plunge in and award these increases which now look like weakness or even worse "payback".

I did actually credit Starmer with some hope and to be honest it is still there. As for Gray, Reeves and Rayner, absolutely not.

The mood music has been firmly set and it has changed significantly from one of improvement (which to be honest should be easy after the last lot), to one of doom and gloom with no idea of when, how and if things might improve and lift the spirits of our country.
