They have only been in power for 6 weeks or so and are still finding out the true level.of the mess this country is in. Im sure we will get a budget announcement when they are ready. Letes hope that the fat rich and greedy corporates and business are charged with funding what is required to fix the UK and not the working poor. Dont forget that the Tories wanted to cut benefits to pay for their own mess.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Who would you classify as fat rich and greedy corporates that can be successfully targeted to raise enough taxation to fix the UK without them making any number of potential moves that could be more damaging to the economy and workforce?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They can afford it. Also also tax the super rich individuals. They caused most of the mess

A lot more than the working poor pensioners and those on benefits can. Y
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Who are those companies?

As for super rich individuals, they will simply move their wealth. That is already happening.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Supermarketsenergy and utiity companies etc. have made record profits during covid and the 'COL' crisis. If indeed you need telling. Compay directors whode own personal incomes have rocketed in the same period who avoid tax. The gulf between rich and poor has widened massively. So those with the broadest soldiers must make up lions share to fix things. Imagine a plan to do so by cutting benefits of the poorest people in society to pay for the mess as the Torys propsed. Ffs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Those profits were in the past, so unless there is evidence of further "excessive" profiteering as result of them continuing to benefit from anything other than day to day trading (eg a Force Majeure), then it's just simply increasing taxes which I alluded to earlier.

As they've ruled out employee income taxation and national insurance rises,, then personal incomes won't be a target. Unless of course they change their minds again.

So effectively, all that's covered here is a rise in corporation tax. Again which I alluded to earlier. Do that and companies will react.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I say squirm.

You are a tory... im not... so we wont agree about life. Leave it at that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not an issue

I would point out that you actually responded to my post in the first place
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You posted your uninformed crap first. You cant expect some people not to diagree or challenge you on a forum like this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh dear. whilst you can view other people's opinions or questions as "uninformed crap", that doesn't make you right. It's all about opinions.

Of course I expect responses. That's what the forum is for. I am confused when you say we are poles apart in our views and you want to leave it there, yet continue to interact.

Which do you prefer?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You just post cliches that you probably read in the Mail or beleived Sunak in the GE such as they have no plan. They do and its as I posted as confirmed by Starmer this morning. Its going to be touch medicine but we have to get back on track that your lot fecked up and those whocan best afford it will pay. You dont agree and think the poor should pay. So we go around in circles. Im not trying to debate with you, im just calling you out for what you are. A Tory.

Just had a quick google of ‘Tories that work with energy companies’… enlightening stuff.

To say Labour are causing people to go without energy this winter, due to means testing payments perfectly fairly, is such Tory spin that I can almost taste the disgusting pig fvckers.

Trump goes to Arlington National Cemetery to pay respects and lay flowers for the servicemen killed in anniversary of the Kabul bombing

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The 2021 Kabul airport attack anniversary wasn't it?
Critical thinkers would ask: why did he not attend the first and second anniversary, but popped up in this anniversary, in election year?

Oh and there's nothing like having a photo-op with a big smile and a thumbs-up over a fallen soldier's grave... many would say it's desecration.

Starmer: "There's a budget coming in October. And I will be honest with you- it's going to be painful. We have no other choice, given the situation that we're in...I'll have to turn to the country and make big asks of you as well. To accept short term pain for long term good."

Any chance he’ll be making these big asks from the likes of Starbucks or Amazon who pay fack all corporation taxes??

No. Because he knows the answer

posted 3 weeks, 3 days ago

I do like this inference that companies like Starbucks will pack up shop and close in the UK if they only make £100m profit a year, rather than £150m.

posted 3 weeks, 3 days ago

The problem with saying Amazon and Starbucks etc is they don't just refuse to pay tax, they often avoid tax through taking loans against their assets

Closing that loophole isn't easy to do without inadvertently damaging innocent companies and the economy

----------------------------------------------------------------------

They won’t because I don’t think there is a legal basis (as of yet) to tax them more. Their corporate set up minimises the profit accrued within this country. That’s the element they pay tax on.

Same as a number of companies that have their base in Ireland or indeed many other countries around the world.

In fact, I think they actually manage to post a “loss” in the UK. Or at least they did.
