So, I am aware.
My point is that is a really rubbish argument - GCHQ can take online data therefore let’s go the whole hog on ID cards!

Rather ridiculous for a free marketeer to conflate a transaction and agreement with a private company for a product with the state surveilling you. I
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The laws are a little loose
They can gain your consent without really explaining what they are doing openly
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Uh huh, I agree. I also think in many ways private surveillance is more concerning, nevertheless it is a transactional agreement not a legally compelled one and Apple has pivoted significantly to being pro consumer privacy for a reason. It is likely to be the case Google will also be compelled that way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s a transactional agreement that is deliberately misleading and not fully advertising what people are agreeing to.
Governments have access to this data and whilst you might turn your smart phone off whilst not using it, I suspect that you use whilst on the move a fair bit and even if you don’t, millions of people who also make the same concerns over surveillance and bopping around with their smartphone using it 16/7.
My point is that long gone are the days that most people cannot be tracked & traced. Everything you ever type into your phone or PC is logged somewhere, VPNs, AVG, peerblocker, wiping history and cookies doesn’t really achieve much when concerned about state surveillance and monitoring.

Yes to first, no to second.
As stated yesterday, 50 million more people in the US from 2000 and you wound think some dems will use immigration to get votes?
In opposition, Biden and dems said come on over, and now he power he changes tune, but people got his message.
A cynic may also wonder if dems are playing an immigration demographic card in order to increase potential voter numbers, but then Obama deported more Hispanics than any other pres and Obama alienated Cuban voters in Florida, so dems give out mixed messages.

Yes to first? The only people proven to have fraudently voting in the last election were Trumpists. Google it.

Several points to make to your broader argument:
1) Regardless of how misleading or deceptive private harvesting of data is, it is still a fundamentally different relationship to that between state surveillance and a person. One is volunteered, one is compelled.
2) The government has access to data courtesy of the Snoopers Charter, however Apple has routinely refused to help governments looking to bypass security measures to access people’s data. For all its wokery it is very good on personal privacy.
3) The sunk cost fallacy, that because much of our freedom is curtailed, we may as well invest the rest of our freedoms to the state is bizarre. There are increasingly good conversations on the issue of consumer privacy and freedom that I think will prove fruitful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. But the terms are not fully understood. That is actually worse than state compelled. At least you know what the deal is. With tech firms, we don’t know what we’re agreeing to. Either way the end result is the same - your location, data, s3xuality fantasies, financial situations, personal relationships, hobbies even personality traits are all most likely recorded somewhere.
2. I doubt that anything substantial will change. Rebranded version of the same thing.
3. Not really a fair representation - most of our privacy is already gone and has been for decades; so why moan about a plastic voting ID card in 2021. That’s not the same as ‘the rest of our freedoms’. Given what privacy is already gone, a plastic photo card doesn’t make any real difference to our lives. Your argument here holds up better when discussing minority report level surveillance but not voter ID cards

Its actually quite easy to activate someone's camera without them knowing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can buy a camera cover for a webcam, or one with one on very easily, or just use tape. I do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Omg do you? What kind of journalism are you actually into?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Just aware of reality, little more than that. As none of this is debating my points and is veering into ad hominem and sneers I am off for a bit. Adios
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s a mixture NPE. Surely you’re aware that your opinions & actions on this matter are very much in the minority and people are always going to question you on it. No-one is calling you a nutter. I can’t speak for everyone but I’m just interested. It’s not an opinion I have directly come into contact with.
My sister & dad until recently refused to bank online and I don’t know anyone else that covers their phone cameras but appreciate that people do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I chose a phone just because it has a pop up camera. 🤣
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When were these pop up cameras? I don’t think I remember them.
