You may like Spurs model but I will not exchange ours with yours any day. At your best, you can only "put the pressure on". You have never known what it feels like to win the PL.
And we do not have an owner who resides as a tax exile.
Just wait till Harry Kane leaves or retires. Spurs will become Spursy again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And wait until your sugar daddy walks away, and City will become City again, probably back in the Championship. Without the money mate City would be nowhere, and you know it.

Whilst I appreciate this is in relation to a specific comment. The actual argument is surely more about the fans of the clubs. I bet the Newcastle fans of that era would have swapped their near miss with the Villa fans who saw their club win that league cup. That is the point.
-----------------------------------------------
It's speculative though. Many fans would disagree strongly with you. Spurs have won 2 trophies in the PL era, but the managers at the time, George Graham and Juande Ramos, are not remembered particularly fondly compared to someone like Martin Jol for example who won nothing, but oversaw massive steps forward for the team after years of lower mid-table mediocrity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes I still recall where I watched those games and yes I evidently celebrated winning those cups, but how long did that joy last and what did it lead to? League cup in 1999 led to a series of mid-table finishes..., until Jol came in 2004 and started reviving us as a decent league team by guiding us to 5th place in consecutive seasons.
In 2008 we were inconsistent all season but turned up for the cups, once we’d won it we slacked off and finished about 11th before he was sacked in October.
Cups are good, but they need to lead to something extra. In our case they didn’t.
Cups are a great cherry on the icing for me. We had such a great and enjoyable season last year, certainly my favourite as a Spurs fan. Sure we won nothing and a trophy would've made me enjoy it more....but the lack of one didn't make me enjoy it any less.
The league cup wins in 99 and 08 were highlights but they were isolated events. I don't look back on those seasons particularly fondly The season we beat City at Eastlands to secure top 4 and CL football was better than those for me. Sure there's not a shiny trophy at the end, but there was a reward for our efforts. And the reward was infinitely harder to achieve than a league cup win imo.
We've moved on from then where securing top 4 is an achievement - still difficult, of course, but we've moved on from then and have loftier ambitions. We may come up short again this season, but already I'm thoroughly enjoying this season. No trophies for beating Real Madrid and Dortmund - doesn't mean I didn't celebrate the fack out of that seen some fantastic stuff away at Everton and Huddersfield. Some real grinders of wins such as vs Bournemouth and Palace. And a facking nervous final few minutes at West Ham after being so comfortable - a classic Spurs match
The lack of a physical pot for Hugo to hold aloft after some of these moments means little to me - I'm gonna facking celebrate and enjoy them anyway whilst dreaming and hoping to win the league or CL. If we don't do either then ok...we'll go again next year. It's the journey I love, not the final moments.

20/30 years from now then if this current batch wins nothing they will be forgotten. History only remembers the winners not the almost men
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I still remember the Newcastle side of over 20 years ago, and they won nothing. They were a great side to watch.
Much more memorable than the Villa side that won a couple of league cups in that period, or the FA Cup winners Everton in 95
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whilst I appreciate this is in relation to a specific comment. The actual argument is surely more about the fans of the clubs. I bet the Newcastle fans of that era would have swapped their near miss with the Villa fans who saw their club win that league cup. That is the point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I totally disagree. The near miss was a platform to compete for the league again. A league cup is not.
If you offered me two choices now:
1. A guaranteed FA cup win but definitely not winning the league (or the CL)
2. Definitely no FA cup win, but in the mix for the league with a few games left (or in a good position in the 2nd leg of a CL semi).
I would 100% take number 2
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolute rubbish.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would 100% take number 2, too. 100%! You wouldn't??
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That isn't linked in any way to my initial post, that was my point. You can't take something like what I said which actually happened (fans preferring to win something as opposed to a team that was good for a while but won nothing) and change it to a hypothetical situation. "Definitely" not winning the league or CL never comes into it does it. At the time every Newcastle fan probably would have taken number 2. Now they wouldn't. It is a choice that has no relevance to what I wrote.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The point is I would rather miss out on minor trophies if it means we are attempting to win the biggest ones.
I do not look back particularly fondly at our league cup win in 1999. It was great at the time, but ultimately it means nothing as it is a minor trophy that is usually a distant 4th in priority.
If you offered me a league or FA cup win last season, but with a 6th placed finish I would also say no. It is short term gain, when the season we had is a better route to long-term success.

I love the discussion on this article.
It's because like the supporters of most clubs, they enjoy the journey as much as the destination. Spurs fans I mean.
There are many, many clubs whose supporters know full well they will never ever see their win a trophy. And yet they are supported nonetheless. To Greatteams and Hafi this is anachronism. They consider only the destination as relevant, and count it in silverware alone. No leeway given even for respective resources. Of course it goes without saying, if all supporters were like this, the very foundations of English football would collapse. Would anyone even support Stoke City, let alone Port Vale or Chester City?
That's the main difference. And United right now is a great example of these contrasting cultures. Mourinho seems to be making United fans very unhappy. They don't like his tactics. They don't like his youth policy, or non-policy. They don't like his media chat. And yet his defenders will simple point to the two trophies he won as the defense. The journey didn't matter, only the destination.
This contrast has always separated the traditional sky 4 supporters from the rest of the league.
