Hahaha Brain now resorting to saying VVD should be expected to perform as he cost £75m..

So even though he has improved Liverpool significantly, it's nothing unusual..

Brain

Hardly. I was simply saying that if you spend that much on a defender, you should expect them to be able to perform against the very best opponents, and the two champions league ties will be a good opportunity to show whether that is he case. Do you disagree?

You must be getting quite hot now Brain. I mean you've dug so far you must be approaching the earth's core.

You expect players to perform in every game.

You tried to imply the City game is the type of game we bought him for so that you can redeem yourself if we concede against City.

You don't buy players for specific games. Nothing you post is relevant or makes sense.

People are just laughing at you

Not at all, I'm simply saying that it will be a good measure of his quality to see how well he performs in such a tie. Why is that difficult to understand?

This is what I said "It will be interesting to see if he comes out well against Man City over the two Champions League legs, in a highly pressured situation where he will be really tested, as that is the kind of arena in which he was bought to excel"

Unless you are unable to read, or struggle with basic comprehension, you will see that there is a very clear difference. Obviously Liverpool spent 75m on him with the intention that he should be able to play well and excel in the biggest games, or do you not think that is the case?

It's still a load of crap

Players are bought to excel in all games not specific games.

We signed VVD to strengthen our defense, period, not to excel in games like City.

What a load of tosh. Youve made a rektum of yourself and you were trying to give imagined prominence to the City game because they score goals for fun to redeem yourself.

Unfortunately for you, this isn't nursery school so cheap tricks like that will only earn you ridicule.

As for your point, the opposite is true.

The City game is the worst for judging VVD because they score goals for fun even against the best defenses. Just look what they did to your team at Old Trafford. Facked you sideways and your defence is better than ours.

Of course he was bought to strengthen the team in every game, that is implicit, however the point in this case is that a good test of his quality is how he performs against top class opposition. Did Liverpool not purchase him to provide sufficient defensive quality to enable them to compete with elite teams when those fixtures arise? I can't understand what you think is incorrect about that?

To suggest that a better test of his quality is against the lesser teams rather than elite teams is surely the logic of an imbecile.

Brain trying to move the goalposts in panic mode..

Your own article "improve Liverpool significantly" so the quantifiable measure would be to measure against what had gone before keeping those parameters the same where possible.

We've improved in the league considerably, significantly even.

What does your brain tell you?

It's incorrect and stupid because you are still trying to give the City game prominence it just doesn't have in an attempt to save your own bacon, which is already toast anyway.

If United bought Pogba to enable them to compete with elite teams when those fixtures arise, then is Pogba a flop because you got raped by City at home and also got beech slapped by Sevilla at home.

The same won't apply to VVD because we didn't buy him to enable us to compete with elite teams when those fixtures arise, we bought him to enable us to compete, period.

======
Where have I suggested that? Stop pulling sheet outta your arris I just said none takes precedence over the others.

You remind me of Winston in that you seem smart enough to have gone to school but not smart enough to apply the gained knowledge to your advantage in day to day life.

To suggest that different games are different tests of quality is what makes you an imbecile.

All games are equal when it comes to judging players.

VVD could become Nesta against City, keep a clean sheet and then proceed to stink us out next 10 games against the likes of Stoke and Everton. If that happened he would still be crap even if he was brilliant against City.

Just admit that this article was a brainfart borne out of the influence of the mist. It is one of the worst articles of recent times and you deserve all the mockery we are directing your way.

You've made yourself look like an inverted rektum here, that's how bad it is and being semi intelligent you have only managed to dig deeper.

Laughing at people like you is what I do here so I suggest you quit, I could do this for years at your expense. Just move on.

You said this: "As for your point, the opposite is true.

The City game is the worst for judging VVD because they score goals for fun even against the best defenses"

This to me supports the contention that you don't think playing against the better teams is useful for judging his quality.

Regarding your point: "All games are equal when it comes to judging players". Do you really stand by that? Do you think you could really gauge the quality of VVD against for an extreme example, a pub team? I'd suggest that to really see the quality of a player you need to test them against the best, at the highest level. That's how elite sport works.

Regarding your suggestion that I would criticise him if he played well, it's not true. I have commented that he has played well on this very thread.

If you are going to speculate on the intelligence of others, at least please try to attempt to appear to say some intelligent things yourself, otherwise you lose credibility.

All games are equal.

When the season ends will you be judging a player on the season as a whole or on a game by game basis while awarding extra points for tough games?
You're funny.

When the season ends you just judge the player and all games are the same for that purpose.

Of course, but these are two elements of the same picture - you can and will judge a player over the course of a season but his performances in the big games will provide a very significant factor in determining how that assessment is made.

If he does really well against city, helping prevent a lethal strike force from scoring and helping Liverpool progress, he will rightly get the plaudits for that, and they will be rightly given based on making that kind of achievement against an elite side. If you think that is the same as him coasting through an easy win against some lowly club who Liverpool should beat easily, with him hardly touching the ball, that's fine. I'd bet you wouldn't swap champions league progression for a basic league win Swansea though.

Moving the goalposts..

Your hypothesis was he wouldn't improve Liverpool significantly.

Kindly keep that consistent?

Another one was that the City game is exactly the kind of game we bought VVD to excel in.
