It all depends, In Fosun, Wolves have a huge opportunity of tapping into the Chinese market. If Wolves can reach the top six sooner rather than later, 50,000 could be more than realistic.

But it's this sort of ambition Wolves will need to keep and add the quality players a top team needs.

Not sure that tapping into the Chinese market will have that much of an effect upon filling a 50k stadium, not unless some of them are going to travel every couple of weeks from Beijing.

The market in China for pay per view etc is potentially staggering and if Wolves can market themselves as China's team in the Premier League they can make a massive financial killing. There is talk that we might take Shanghai FC's top player on a trial. He probably wont be good enough, but if a player did emerge in the coming years that was able to make the grade then the viewing figures in China on pay per view would probably be in the millions

I doubt there will be many Chinese season ticket holders, but if Wolves become a big name in China, I can guarantee we will see a lot of people coming over to see a match.

You should have seen how many there were at Gretna Green, when my mate got married. All there with their cameras.

Are we signing joao Mario.

Let's not get carried away with pay per view etc in China. Right now the most popular teams in China are Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Liverpool. That's without the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea and more.

So to think that we are suddenly going to be on their radar is a wee bit naive. As for the Chinese suddenly jumping on a plane and sitting on their bums at Molineux, that's also far fetched. Or maybe that's how we're going to get 50,000 crowds.

C'mon, let's live in the real world and not get into the realms of fantasy.

Sunshine we have a major advantage over all those teams you mention, Chinese owners.

Football is not big in China but China want it to be, If we can challenge the top teams, then we have a distinct advantage. and it really could be huge.

It really isn't that far fetched to imagine, fans taking in a game while over here.

China could be key to our future.

Amiga, Fosun struck a deal a season or two ago to show 10 of our league games. They also planned to have a pre-season tournament in China. Now I don't know how many fans watched our games, but even with Chinese owners, I'm not so sure we're going to take China by storm. The clubs I mentioned above are established and that's why they're so popular over there. For us to even match them, let alone take away their viewers, we're going to have to win something and soon.

Where have we been for the last two pre-season matches? Austria and Switzerland, not China, which is what Fosun had hoped for.

I think you're letting emotions rule over reality. We'd all like to take the Premier League by storm and win trophies, but it will happen later rather than sooner I'm afraid. Let's get established in the Premier League, before we take on the world.

Kind of agree with Wolfie really, whilst we will get a wee boost of Chinese fans the only way we will really take off is to be successful (win something or get into the CL) OR have a player from China be a success.

I think you are missing what I'm saying, If we are going to compete long term with a 50 to 60,000 seater stadium, which will be needed to attract and finance the top players, we need an edge.

That edge is China, It won't happen overnight, but it will be vital for our long term success, and I think Fosun are betting on that as well.

posted on 6/8/18

We're not going to get a 50-60,000 seater stadium amiga. Chelsea for example have a 42,000 seater which they don't fill every time and they a larger catchment area than us. What's the population of Wolverhampton? 260,000 or so.

Yes we have Chinese owners, but like I stated before, China wants to clamp down on money going overseas, so we may not have Fosun for as long as you think.

We will have to win trophies even to compete with the big guns, so for now we should all keep our feet firmly on the ground.

Sunshine, Chelsea do have a bit of competition (how many London clubs are there?)

Wolverhampton is a one club City, It has it's advantages.

What Fosun chooses to do will be key to our success, If they pull out tommorrow, then yes of course things change.

If however things continue as they are then we will be getting a 50 to 60,000 seater stadium, Fosun have said as much.

I agree all this will depend on us achieving some success, Bur that is Fosuns stated aim, Not just to compete with the top 6, but to win the Prem and Europe.

Now saying it is one thing, but achieving it is another, but if we can, and we do become a global brand, China will play a massive part (Fosun have hinted as such)

Success does not come easy, but it certainly won't come if we maintain a small club attitude, Fosun are aiming much higher, as a successful investment company, I think they know what they are doing.

Good stuff Perton, mind you according to Sunshine it isn't going to happen, which is strange as I thought it was Fosun making these decisions, and they have said it will.

Umm who to believe

Not wishing to drag this out amiga, but...West London has a population of 1.6m and their near rivals will be Fulham.

Wolverhampton has a population of around 260,000. I hope you get my point.

Remember the last time we had big ideas about re-building the stadium? We ended up in League 1.

Let's just stick to walking before we start running and hope the players and Nuno can surprise a few this season.

This.

30,000 is plenty big enough. Spend the money on the team and win an FA Cup without an eye on going down as a result - that'll do most people.

I repeat how many London clubs are there?

Sunshine there is a once in a lifetime opportunity here, an opportunity to put Wolves truly on the map.

Stadium development, players, marketing, sponsorship etc are all tied together, all these things need to be in place. We are not going to achieve that by tip toeing towards it.

posted on 7/8/18

Fairly clear that money and ambition isn't an issue and the club won't take a softly softly approach and quite right, we don't need to wait so why should we.

That said I do think that the ceiling isn't quite as high as some seem to think regardless, talk of 50-60k stadiums just doesn't fit to me and you only have to look at the other big clubs to see that.

Aren't they still trying to acquire a bit of land next to Molineux? Could just be bargaining talk to make the owner of that land realise we won't be held over a barrel and will explore other options that might even serve is better...

Not sure how relevant this type of discussion is. I live in London but travel to Molineux, not Stamford Bridge. It means I also see the train loads of Londoners travelling up to Liverpool and Manchester every week to watch those teams. I've also spent the weekend in Liverpool and seen the flood of fans arriving by Ryan Air to be at anfield.

A period of success wins you supporters from all over the place.

Agree with that Lizard. I work at a school, the kids had Man Utd shirts, Arsenal shirts etc, but not one Man City Shirt.

What do you know as soon as Man City start winning things, kids are suddenly supporting Man City.

I Might add, since Wolves have started turning things around, I am seeing more and more Wolves Shirts appearing.

Back on transfers...

Traore in today...are we going to get the other two that Nash has been so insistent on? Who will they be? Mina looks like he'll go elsewhere. Pepe looks like it was balls. There's still a possibility that the Vida talk might be genuine I guess. I think if we sign a centre half then we're probably okay in midfield too, so striker or wing back if there were to be another one?

Sounds like Batth might go to Boro to cover loss of Gibson. Traore signing has reignited rumours about Cav going...hope not...love that guy and think he offers something the others don't. Expect Bright to head to championship on season long loan. Any other leavers besides the bomb squad? Remember players can go on loan to the football league for a few more weeks as well as being sold into other leagues so some of the departures will happen later once the incomings are done.

posted on 7/8/18

Cav was in London yesterday. Tweeted a photo by the London Eye. No idea whether it has any relevance to a move.

posted on 7/8/18

As much as Cavaleiro improved last season compared to the season before, I just cant see him getting much game time next season if we have Traore, Costa, Jota, Jiminez and Bonatini all at the club. If something like £16m is on the table for him then I could understand the club taking it. It makes Traore almost a freebee.

Looks like Batth may go, and loans for Hause, Enobakhare and Graham seem close to being finalised. And the club are trying to find loan or permanent moves for Gladon, Zyro, Deslandes, Mason, Ronan, Ofuso-Ayeh, Iorfa and Ebanks Landell.
