Do you think Black Adam is worth watching in the cinema and paying for a ticket and snacks?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Depends if you're in the mood for a messy. switch-your-brain off popcorn movie
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Those movies are great from time to time, but unfortunately not worth spending money on actively seeking them.

I think I'll wait for an online release.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But you paid money to see Dr Strange 2 and Thor 4 ? Both also the epitome of switch your brain off popcorn movies. Black Adam is likely better than both those movies. Undoubtedly better than Thor 4 at least which was diabolical by all accounts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Easy to say with hindsight.

Dr Strange 2 was one of the most anticipated movies of the year and it was expected to be far more than just a popcorn flick. Thor 4 was also going to be a comedy but It was coming off a decent Ragnarok, so to see it fall off to such an extent, was surprising.

I'm not invested into BA enough to spend my hard earned money on a cinema visit. I already wasted money on Thor 4 and Strange 2, so I'm going to be more selective with what I watch in the cinema.

I'll still watch BA when it releases online.

Isn't the more pertinent question why that awful song in Jabba's Palace ever became a reality in the newer version on ROTJ? It happened and we all let it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Knew I could rely on you bud
And 100% concur about that monstrous new version in Jabbas Palace!
Terrible.. and on top have Boba Fett going round like he’s some mr lover lover man!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That was a perfect scene for Boba. Of course he's going to have all the ladies vying for his attention,he was one of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy who just hand delivered a frozen in carbonite Han Solo to Jabba.

Yeh, I guess so. It’s just for years we’d seen this guy be all about business, and then suddenly they give a moment that looked out of place.
I mean sure, he was a badass, so I’m sure he’d had attention. I got over it.
But he’s not proper Mandalorian. So could do whatever I suppose

So you've been burnt by Marvel this year and as a result won't watch the latest DC movie. Presumably you won't be watching Black Panther Wakanda either with this newly found selectivity.

So Black Adam now with a whopping user score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. Also has a 7.5/10 user score on Metacritic and a 7.2/10 IMDb score.

Much higher user scores than the big MCU entries we've had this year.

Marvel have disappointed me but I have enjoyed 3/5 phase 4 movies, so I am willing to give BP2 the benefit of the doubt.

BA reviews all seem to suggest it's good on the eyes but with little substance or emotion. Great for a Saturday night on the couch, less so for a cinema trip.

Well that's hardly an accomplishment.

Let's see how BA does over time. The movie just came out a few days ago so I am sure there are fanboys of the rock that are flooding those reviews.

He was a rogue bounty hunter that done what he wanted. The movies show the business side but as Andor has shown, there is a dark and seedy element to the SW galaxy. I think it would be naive to think bounty hunters weren't getting their needs met. I mean Jabba literally had Leia chained in a bikini

You're right Marvel phase 4 has been utter dog cack overall.

89% is an incredibly high score for Black Adam that may or may not come down. Time will tell.

I'm very much looking forward to watching this movie knowing that it's an action and special effects bonanza made for watching in the cinema on a big screen.

I don't trust audience scores tbh, too easily manipulated.

I also just tend to have a taste closer to critics than fanboys.

Promising start for Black Adam in terms of box office
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The test for Black Adam is second weekend - as that is driven by word of mouth and fans wanting to go for a second viewing.

If it collapses next week then we'll know the general critical reception is not dissimilar to the fan reception.

If it holds firm - then it found a strong audience.

Well yeah the movie's only been out a day so time will tell how it performs. Presumably it does better than the $760 million that Thor 4 undeservedly earned.

Ohhh… hmmm. So I figure that,
Black Adam needs to hit at least 500 Million to claim a ‘Box Office’ success. A budget of 200, and I’m being generous with the PR campaign.
I’m starting to think it won’t do 500 million…

Lot of variables with this one.
Ok I’m gonna go back to my original prediction of 600-700 max.

No doubt. Sunday evenings.
But, it only has a 3 week run before BP2 kicks it from the top spot.
TopGun this won’t be, that’s for sure…

Why such pessimism Stringer ? Obviously the current financial uncertainty in the world won't help. But there's no reason to think that it won't easily pass the 500 mark.

To be fair, word of mouth was toxic on BvS that it collapsed midway through its first weekend

So I will take a solid opening day as a plus!

I think 500 is a maybe.

60m opening weekend US - superhero movies typically average a multiplier of about 3 (ie their overall gross compared to opening weekend).

So, let's say it makes 180m in the US.

Let's also be nice and say it only makes a third of its money Stateside because Dwayne is a big international presence.

You're talking $540m.

So, it's possible but it's not an easy feat.

I have gone back to my original prediction.
Pun going last night I bumped it up another 100 million.

But as I said, lots of variables to consider.
Most of Rocks films have settled around the 450 mark.
Fast & Furious I don’t count.
Welcome to the Jungle was at Xmas.

DCs relatively poor performances, besides Batman.
But then you got The Rocks star power, seems to go from strength to strength.
The spoiler of the post credits alone is gonna pull people in, even just to feel the buzz of the crowd,.. not felt since Vulture met Morbius… hmm I may be remembering that differently.

So, I’m going back and forth.. think DC will be happy pulling in 600 mill.
