Fair point. I would say after the Hales experiment, we're quite far away from looking at Roy but with more interest in the ODI team, maybe we're not actually that far away from giving him a go.
Iv never really understood why some batsmen can't make the adjustment from the ODI or T20 to test cricket. I get there is more patience required and more risk but there is higher reward. Is it the ball?

He'll possibly come in for Curran then depending on how he performs this test match.
What's your views on Rashid's inclusion?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Curran will stay in for at least the next test match as Stokes is set to miss the next one as a certainty and Curran is a decent batsman. Moeen may well come in to offer a second spinner option on what is likely to be a drier pitch.
I wouldn't have picked Rashid but hope the lad does well, the backlash he has received for his inclusion has been awful from some people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the comments from Vaughan were harsh but true in a sense as he's not played county cricket and it must be a sickening blow for those who do play

The dukes ball does tend to swing for longer and some guys just don't have the ability to hang in there when the going gets tough as to why they cannot make the adjustment.

Yea I get that but it's not like the ball doesn't swing in the shorter format games. I think I sort of understand why people say players can't make the adjustment but I don't get it
How's stat?!
Virender Sehwag is the fastest batsman to 6,000 Test runs in terms of ball faced - 7,564.

The white ball swings for a couple of overs and two new balls in ODI cricket reduce the chances of reverse swing so it's pretty much a batsmans game

Patience is one of the key skills really, seeing out a couple of maidens in a test match is okay but some batsmen start to feel pressure as if they're playing an ODI.
The likes of Roy and Hales probably rarely leave a ball or play a forward defensive so to have to come in to a test match situation and think about leaving and defending the majority of deliveries isn't in their thought process. They can also come to the crease in 2 minds, "my natural instinct is to attack but I should be defending" then often get out playing needless wafts at deliveries they should leave.

Unbelievable but what an awesome player he was.
I would say Roy and Hales' techniques aren't the best either. Watch them play limited over Cricket and count the number of times they play cover/extra cover drives for example. You won't see many. First few overs they get the ball over the fielders through playing slogs or pull shots which they can due to the restrictions. You don't get that liberty in Test cricket where your technique gets exposed very quickly.
To be fair, Cook's technique is pretty limited as is his arsenal of shots. You don't often see him produce a cover drive although he's one of those players that when he does, he comes across as if he's in good nick.
Tbh I'd say Cook's range of shots is limited rather than his technique being off. He has his strengths and he sticks to them - he rarely sweeps or gets out playing stupid paddle sweeps for example. You don't score 10,000 runs without good technique.
Cook's got the ability to hang in there for ages, fantastic mentally.

When he hangs up his bat he will be remembered as one of our best ever batsman.
India's weak bowling is being badly exposed here. No variety in the attack and badly missing Bumrah/Bhuvi.
Root finds a way to get out again without scoring a century.... India back in it
I know that was good by Kohli but to be run out in that situation is poor.
Why attempt the second run? India were looking ragged and out of ideas and these two could have easily been around until the close of play sitting pretty with big scores against their name.
Root lacks the killer instinct. Average will always look good but clearly has some mental block.
Root absolute brainless moment from him.
No Test century this year by the way...
Bairstow gone now. Cue typical England collapse.
Just shows how quickly a match can turn. 300-320/3 at the close could have well been on the way Bairstow and Root were going. One silly moment and now it wouldn't be a surprise to see us 260/7 at the close.
These two are just as dangerous lets not forget. Can quickly take a game away.
