Make that 13 wickets for 130 runs... Hildreth still in though, interested to see how he gets on in a match where top scorer thus far got 20.

Tom Abell in with Hildreth, another with potential England hopes at some point in the future...

Burns chugging along at 79* having faced 176 balls (when was the last time an England opener did that?).

Hildreth racing to a brisk 27* off 20, well over half his team's total of 44, playing in one-day mode and still top-scoring for the match so far.

I'm feeling an innings loss to Surrey already. 159/1 with Burns and Elgar well set . Imagine if we had those two as England's openers, it's a shame Elgar couldn't represent us instead .

The Essex batting has been horrible this year save for the last match against Hampshire. Other than Ten Doeschate, I don't think anyone else is averaging above 40. Browne and Lawrence are in the 20s and I think Westley is in the teens.

Porter's bowling has been well below par this year as well compared to his last 3. He so often would pick up a couple of wickets in his first spell but he's been nowhere near as effective this season.

Yep, and Surrey's bowling has been superb this year. The number of innings victories has been crazy. We're well worth the title this year. Just as well really, since it'd be a complete waste if this team didn't win. Damn shame it's a year too late for Sanga to be part of it. What a guy

Morkel was a genuinely inspired signing but the kids have stepped up brilliantly. Virdi looks a real prospect.

Hildreth out for 32.

Burns still going at 82* off 190 - c'mon skip

Burns can be Cook's successor, how old is he?

posted on 4/9/18

Is the pitch misbehaving a lot or is it a mix of good bowling and poor batting?

Just turned 28

To be honest he's got better credentials to be the England skipper than anyone else in the side, but let's give him a chance to get in the team first, eh

Hope he gets out first ball after tea and sparks a wild collapse of 9 wickets for about 7 runs

Pitch at Somerset sounds hilarious

Dom Bess is out there now though so I expect Somerset to build a 60-70 run lead and then leave Lancashire 25/6 at stumps.

Getting out straight after an interval. He'll fit right in for England
