Ollie Pope in at 4 for Surrey... guess that's where he bats now

Getting out straight after an interval. He'll fit right in for England
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably start of a collapse, that's England...
Ollie Pope on 3* from 23 balls
Hope he gets a good score here, he could use a good solid bat to restore confidence
That'll be Burns over 1,000 county runs for the season now (for the fifth season in a row)....

He is coming out after 60 odd overs which would be at like 8 or 9 for England.

1,000 first class runs for the 5th season in a row. I don't believe he's done 1,000 county runs 5 times in a row. I think he's done 1,000 county runs 5 times in total through his career.

Been a bit under the radar due to Stoneman having a good year a couple of years ago and Sanga smashing it last season. Even Pope is scoring with a better average than him this season. Consistently getting lots of runs though means he should be hard to ignore, especially playing for the fashionable Surrey.

Pope's average is bolstered by a couple of not-outs, which are a bit easier to get coming in at 6 than opening...
Not wishing to discredit Pope at all, but Burns this year has been outrageously good

Also worth pointing out that Burns is 200 runs ahead of his nearest competitor in the championship this year (Vince), despite having batted 4 fewer innings because Surrey keep winning by an innings

No doubt, but Pope got picked ahead of him probably because Smith went "holy moly this kid is averaging 85". Burns should have been picked when Pope came in and batted in the top 3. Would have helped us quite a bit I reckon.

Pope and Foakes batting for Surrey now... I feel bad for Foakes, great keeper and a really solid bat who should've been capped by now, but to be fair with Buttler playing so well at the moment I think he just has to wait his turn.
Would still love to see Pope and Foakes batting together for England in a few years.

Dom Bess is out there now though so I expect Somerset to build a 60-70 run lead and then leave Lancashire 25/6 at stumps.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As I didn't necessarily say Bess would be the one to get the runs then this prediction has gone pretty well so far

He was clearly the inspiration. Somerset rallied after he was cruelly felled for diddly squat.
A 14-ball diddly squat, no less
Glad Notts brought in Duckett after we played them - he's fecking motoring

Foakes is the second best keeper in the country although with Foster hardly playing these days, you can make a case that he's the best.
Bairstow is a very good keeper but if there's someone better then why aren't they playing? Bairstow will just have to sulk and then wake up and realise that he's still going to be picked as a batsman for England and get on with it.
Foakes is a better keeper than either Bairstow or Buttler, comfortably. Alec Stewart rates him as potentially the best keeper in the world, though clearly he's biased.
There's a strong argument Foakes is a more reliable bat than Buttler too, which is why at the beginning of the summer I'd have personally gone for Foakes at 7 and not Buttler. But Jos is playing very well at the minute, and there's nothing wrong with his or Bairstow's keeping at the moment, so I'm OK with Foakes having to wait his turn.
I think Bairstow and Buttler are potentially both good enough to merit a place in the team as pure batsmen, but the middle order is so damn congested. I think Foakes just has to be patient.
Pope out for a scratchy 21... let's hope his England experience hasn't knocked his confidence like it did Joe Root when he was called up too early and asked to bat too high...
