Essex have struggled most of the season with getting runs on the board in the first innings.

Imagine how gutted Jack Leach will be if Somerset lose this.

He will be batting soon.

I was saying yesterday that the batsmen have been terrible this season in comparison to last. Last year most of the batsmen were averaging above 40 with a couple of guys in the high 30s. Add Porter and Harmer taking 150 wickets between them at whatever low average they were taking their wickets at and you have a destructive combination.

Essex of last season vs Surrey of this season would be a great match though.

Yes it would.

Having Cook back after the tests will hopefully get the batting back on track a bit.

Fair play to Abbas and Parkinson at Leicestershire, took them from 49/9 to 133 all out.

Yep, he might not be the rock he has been for the last few years for England but he's not lost the consistent run scoring in the games he's played for Essex during that time.

3 runs to go, that's surely the game now.
