I don't see any club within the top 6 or abroad pay £40m for Henderson
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Chelsea paid that for Drinkwater mate. Tbh I just dont think you understand what he does.

Not a big fan of Henderson's but i thought Southgate got it wrong not bringing Dier in to support him for the Croatia match. He had a tough job this world cup - Lingard and Alli are not orthadox central midfielders by any stretch, so the midfield was pretty much left to Henderson. Up against Modric and Rakitic that will only end one way.
But its all well and good saying we should move away from him - who do you bring in? Speaks volumes about the quality of our CMs at the moment that he is probably our best option. 10-15 years ago he wouldnt have got near the squad, let alone the starting line up.
And that was a massive mistake from Chelsea
Well clearly we disagree on this, which we've done before if I remember. Nothing to do with misunderstanding, simply a difference of opinions. Although I think you should at least watch the clip, it's only a minute

He showed me more as a defensive midfielder than I expected.
I criticised him before the tournament for being the ultimate crab. After the Croatia game I was wishing he continued to be so.
One bad game though. Albeit was really bad and was a crucial one. But I think he had a good tournament and has won me round overall.
It’s a tough one, he’s a good player but nothing more than that. He played well in the games where we were superior to the opposition (Panama, Tunisia, Sweden) yet when we played a superior midfield he struggled.
He has limitations in that he doesn’t move well on the ball and he also doesn’t do anything threatening when pressed. Yet I find it hard to blame him too much because that midfield diamond team we pick is just so stupid and you have to have been Modric levels of good to cope.
Henderson is limited, no arguments there. But that doesn't mean he's not good enough for England or that England can't win something with him in the team.
There have been plenty of successful teams, both at club and international level, where there have been (relatively) limited players performing a role for the team.
It's never about 1 player (irrespective of whether you want to try and isolate Henderson) and that's never more true than in centre midfield. You need a balance of abilities and complimentary skill sets.
Henderson is comfortably good enough for England because there's nobody better at performing the role be plays. Do I wish we had Kante? Sure. But we don't.
He’s good at what he does, but let’s face it, he’s no Xabi Alonso. Bar Lallana, England don’t possess a midfielder who’ll demand the ball and look to use it properly when the pressure is on.
The thing is greatteams, it's hardly the first time I've seen this from Henderson. Whenever the opposition close him down he panics. He has never had the technique in tight spaces to play through teams. He is what he is. Some like it, I personally don't

Wilshere?
Agree Edin, but some of the moments in that clip are laughable. Even when under no pressure it's just an aimless hoof upfield.
He should stick to recycling it between the defenders until we produce a better player.

I'm far from a fan of Henderson but he had a good world cup. We were practically asking him to be Kante, and he just isn't that.
All things considered he did well in my opinion.

Robbing to be fair you said 'I haven't seen one Liverpool fan on here say that', and now you have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I hadnt. I doubt hes seen more than two. Just lazy posting from him tbh.
-----
I've seen about 4 at least. Hence I made my comment. You picked me up on that comment in a large post, and only that saying you didn't see any, in the very thread there was one.
But instead of holding your hands up and saying you were wrong, you now say you doubt I saw more than two. I'm not going to go through a bunch of threads to find each of them. Some people on here can't seem to hold their hands up when they're wrong.
I wonder about where this next level of ball-playing midfielder will come from though. Winks shows promise but would need to improve a lot. Aside from that the only ball playing #6 or similar style players we have in the youth teams are George McEacheran (sp) and someone else suggested Mason Mount?
So really we are relying on the likes of Chalobah, Winks and RLC teaching their maximum potential which is a big ask.
I mean... he was literally making clearances from midfield when Croatia players got near him. I can't be the only one to watch those clips and be gobsmacked at how bad they are?

How was I wrong?
Funnily enough you've said only Liverpool fans have said it. Clearly not true. Just hold your hand up mate.
Imo, There are several England players that are just not good enough. They stand out with a team full of foreigners but once you put 11 English men on the pitch their many inadequacies are laid bare.
But these are the best the country has to offer, Henderson wasn't actually that bad. Imagine though if he had a proper footballer alongside him. Unfortunately, we are severely lacking.

This thread is a shining example of why so many JA606 articles end in arguments and slanging matches.
Liverpool fans certainly not the only guilty party of course.

I don't think anyone, least of all Liverpool fans who are the purported defenders of Henderson, would compare him to Alonso. Xabi was a cut above.
Having watched Henderson for a number of years, his recycling of possession is fine. Not Alonso good but it's fine. Despite the crab reputation he does look to hit forward passes regularly though so his possession stats will never be outstanding.
I'm just a bit baffled by the criticisms Henderson receives. He's a good player who had a good world cup. Nothing more, nothing less.
Look, no footballer should be so bad that I laugh when I see them play
I had it with Paulinho at Spurs
Henderson is another example to me
