The battle at Hardhome along with the Battle of the Barsturds was without doubt the best tv battles ever..
They let themselves down more than anything with season 8.

No they didn’t. The battles were superb in season 8, if a bit tactically stupid.
Nah they were bad. Awful editing, poorly shot, murky visuals at times and tactically inept on top of it all.

Na, they were poor. Especially the big battle in wakanda, that was awful. Stupid too, really dumb tactics, worse than jon’s At winterfell. While think looked really fake. Addition of those weird monsters, thousands of them, never mentioned anywhere in the story, just suddenly there. Awful. Good film otherwise, but the battles were crap, aside the NYC fight.

Tactically inept is explained by the fact Jon Snow has always been an inspiring warrior but a useless battle tactician.
I watched it on a 4K TV and it looked beautiful. I have many issues with the script of that episode. But I found the complaints over so-called murkiness more to do with the insufficient nature of other people's TV sets.

Plus, they were fighting in s snowstorm or in a medieval poorly lit castle. Got it right for me.

Build up the night king for 7 seasons only for him to arrive and be killed by a little girl in one episode.
Genius.

Yeah that was very disappointing. They deserved a much grander send off if they were going to be defeated. I mean this is an enemy that has been around for a thousand years or more, right? They survived a previous war between Men and the Children, who are magical beings.
They never even brought up how they were dealt with the previous time or why they've started coming back to attack the living 1000 years later. Could have been something Sam read up about and mentioned to at least give him a purpose in this season.

Weirdly I didn’t mind it that much but Arya has always been my favourite character.
“When people ask you what happened here, tell them the north remembers. Tell them winter came for House Frey”. That whole scene is probably my favourite in GoT.

Making of style documentary on Atlantic now.
Not sure why you have got so triggered over a difference of opinion for this show. Weird.
Anyway, I can accept Arya killing him, but I'd like to have seen more of a struggle, to get the job done. More of a 'long' night than what we actually got. Feels like a missed opportunity after the 7 seasons of build up to have it end just like that. Couldn't the White Walkers have done more? Couldn't Jon Snow have had more of a confrontation with the NK? They never really lived up to the threat that they were made out to be in the end if I'm honest.
It would add to the realism if characters were to talk about how they were defeated in the past. Not sure why you think it'd be irrelevant? Everyone sort of accepts that the dead are coming and that they came a thousand years ago too, but I never heard anyone question the how or why they went away a thousand years ago. I mean I'm happy to keep a level of mystery surrounding them, only a bit more information around them would have been nice. Again another missed opportunity.

Indeed, all that build up for the anti climatic conclusion at Winterfell.

It's over now. Let it go.
I was catching up on the "StarTalk Radio" podcast the other day, and Neil Degrasse Tyson had dedicated the entire episode to a tongue-in-cheek analysis of GoT.
He included snippets of a previous interview with GRRM where the writer randomly mentions upcoming work featuring "a different take on unicorns."
Good luck getting a final installment. Looks like he's already moved on.
