So it's all over then. I do take the point that it's not a television programmes duty to make the viewer feel satisfied and yet as a viewer and fan, I'm afraid that's how I feel. Thoroughly underwhelmed.
-----------------------------------------
At least it wasn't anywhere near as bad as the pathetic ending to Lost.
It is very difficult to end something as heavily invested in as GOT in a way that satisfies everyone. However they ended it there'd be people complaining.
Nobody complained about The Sopranos ending...or The Wire ending or Breaking Bad's ending.
It's ok to say you spent 8 years of your life invested in something only for it to turn out shiiit. We all make mistakes.
People will always complain, but when it’s the lowest rated episode (and season) in the whole franchise you know things haven’t been done right.
just watch the after show with d&d, it just exposes them
People will accept the ending being different to what they wish had happened if it's written well, but it was rushed to the point a lot of it wasn't believable.
I saw Avengers Endgame the same day as the last episode of GOT, and that had a very satisfying ending.
Perhaps they should have got the writers of that to write for them?

Different eras though. Those shows ended when social media was significantly less than it is now. It's much easier to get on a bandwagon now.
And I don't think the ending was terrible though. The last season certainly wasn't as good as it could have been. Nowhere near in fact. And Dany's inexplicable descent into Stalin-esque genocide made no f-ing sense of course.
It was really that baffling writing decision that made it very difficult for the show to have an ending that would be satisfying to all.

Because all those endings were better. Breaking bass was arguably a top 5 episode.
People lost their minds over “lost”
Don’t get what your point is
So to summarise the final season:
Jon went north
Arya went west
Drogon went east
And this show went south
Anyone going to watch the prequels / spin-off shows?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably.
Ultimately I enjoyed GoT, it was some of the best TV I've ever seen and I enjoyed the journey even if the ending was hugely disappointing.
If we lose the CL final I'll probably feel the same about this season
I'll most likely watch the spin offs but not sure why they're going to do a long night one, when it'll be more of the same of what we've already watched with the white walkers.

The White Walkers part is the one that's most intrigued me in the series, so I'd be up for that.
The prequel will be about Bran the Builder, Lann the clever and the white walkers
Sounds pretty good with the right writers...cast looks a bit meh to me

Me too but given they basically made the white walkers terminators who's only purpose was to kill men, I'm not really sure what more they can show us about them.

They could expand on their backstory. I thought they should have done this more in GOT in the build up to the Long Night but they didn't.
I wouldn't expect it to be as good or as engaging as GOT was with all its politics, stories, and characters, but it could still do well on its own if it's written competently.
Basically it's all of the events leading up to the Long Night.
"From the horrifying secrets of Westeros's history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend, only one thing is for sure: it's not the story we think we know."

They rushed the conclusion, it's not as simple as people not liking what happened but how it got there
I didn't like Ned getting beheaded, I didn't like the Red Wedding (remember reading and re-reading the book thinking I must have missed something, it must be a dream etc) but it was still great to watch and made sense.
The show went from being character driven (as the books are) to plot driven and suffered as a result mostly because a whole lot of plot was squeezed into too few episodes
