Nice. Still think he looks a little too much like Giroud but whatever. New song to the tune of Agadoo?

This is key. We need them both on the bench at least

Oh please. Make them look mugs in the Dragusin deal then make them pay actual money for Dier. That’ll be the sweetest karma after their sheite housery during the Kane deal, facking lederhosen wearing priks.

Great news for us. This is all I ever wanted from us with transfers - a slick set up that identified players for a system and then could put a schitt hot proposal to the player.

It feels like we have finally got the right people in place to land our targets

I think these are two very well thought out signings for us. Dragusin speaks for itself as we are well short in that area, but with Werner - everyone mocking him but I really think he will do a job, his main assets (pace and high pressing work rate) are exactly what Ange needs from a forward to make his system work. It’s not about Werner coming in to be the focal point of attack and score loads of goals, it’s about enhancing the collective, being able to call on different options without disrupting the game plan. To astute signings over the line before anyone else has even got out of bed - who’d have thought it, well done Spurs.

so CBs for Utd could be vdV and Dragusin? or do we keep Royal in there alongside vdV w/Drag on the bench

Options!!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah tricky. Royal has become a handy utility man under Ange, his issue is his ability on the ball in a press - he tends to give possession away cheaply compared to Romero who just cruises through the lines and makes the system flow. But he’s definitely done a better than expected job as back up given he’s a career full back. Maybe stick with him rather than give RD a baptism of fire at OT.

I'd agree. Whilst Royal isn't as comfortable on the ball in tight spaces like our natural CBs, he has done well

TBF, I do recall A LOT of us saying he'd make a decent CB, albeit in a back 3, when we played that system under Conte

I genuinely dream of situations where we have 2-3 decent players for each position where the quality doesn't drop with each sub/rotation.

If anything, a scenario like that should spur the players on to perform above their abilities otherwise their place could come under threat.

And if said players can't perform under that pressure, then we know that the incoming player resolves that issue
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's good that Ange has a more modern view on player positions - ie. that "positions" are an old-fashioned notion. Players perform roles/functions on the pitch according to their skillsets. Pigeon-holing them into a single position is daft. Royal's skills suit what Ange needs from a central defender, so he uses him there, even though "He's a right back" or whatever.

Exactly the same thing Guardiola does. Identify a system comprised of a bunch of predefined roles, find players whose skills suit one or more of those roles, use those players in those roles even if it breaks the old notion of "fixed positions."

On that note, I feel like Werner fills a lot of the same roles as Kyogo did at Celtic. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see him thrive as the central attacker in Ange's setup (granted his finishing does need work)

And Eric Dier is still stinking the gaff out

I think Royal has been a bit of a disaster defensively at CB and should not be starting unless we have no other options
