I don't think Devine is thought of as being that far ahead of Donley, he's only a year older and apparently we're trying to loan Donkey out to the championship too.
Personally if one of them does well over the next few months I would like to see him become Maddison's backup next season, knowing that we also have deki as an option there too if we decide they aren't ready yet.

not even the worst signing in the current squad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pound for pound (no pun intended) Ndombele is obviously the worst signing in our history. Record signing (still) and biggest flop.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would just like to put a word in here on behalf of Emmanuel Adebayor please.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No way. I wanted him out of the door by the end, along with a number of others. But he was a loan deal that became permanent for £5m and he scored 35 goals in 92 games for us. He was a much better striker for us than Soldado or Rebrov who were both record signings at the time and totally flopped.

I don’t really know, but surely he is based on such a decent loan at Port Vale (and also he is our biggest academy prospect for some time) & that he has more senior minutes?

For Luka, if he isn’t in his weird mood, I know Bissouma is your new guy you don’t dislike. But do you think Bentancur would be playing the 6 ahead of him if everyone was fit?
I think the fact he didn’t play that role at the weekend was suggestive to what Ange considers his best role
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hard to say but Bentancur played in the 6 against Villa before he got injured. He can defo do a job there.

Strong disagree. Spurs got a decent season out of Ndombele, 91 total games and 10 goals. Nowhere near what was hoped obviously, and he's still near the bottom of the pile for sure, but Gil has fewer than half the games (41) and precisely zero goals. Certainly nothing close to a decent season.
Obviously the focus is on Ndombele because of the price tag, but FFS, Gil cost £20m plus Lamela before going back to Sevilla on loan the year after.
I really don't get why Gil gets such an easy ride. He's been an absolute facking disaster. He's cost a fortune, barely played and when he has featured he's produced literally nothing.
Yeah but stats don't give you context. Ndombele was and even still possibly is one of our most talented players, he just won't put any effort in. That's inexcusable at any level of professional football let alone for one of our top earners and record fee. Yeah Gil cost money but he's not on big wages and he is obviously trying, there's not much he can do about his body shape.
Also if you're wumming shut up.
Gil gets an easier ride because you can see trying at least. He just needs to beef up.
You're right I am not a fan of 5ft 7 players but I reckon in a couple of years he will come good. Not sure if he will be good enough for us but you can just tell by what you see he is a worker.
Ndombele gets a harder ride because he cost double, had all the talent, just not the work ethic. Looks overweight, stories of him being a poor trainer and runs like a hippo.
Wishing Bissouma gets well 🙏🏻
All that is true but I don't see how it makes Gil a less bad signing for Spurs. You can't tell me a player who has contributed literally nothing is a better signing than someone who did produce SOME actual match contributions, just because he looks like he gives slightly more of a sheit
Also if Gil does end up having a successful career elsewhere surely that makes him an even worse failure at Spurs
Well no, but your issue was why he gets an easy ride.. I don't think there's a Spurs fan out there that could make a case for him being a good signing. Like you pointed out, he's been objectively rubbish. But he's saved from getting flack by obviously trying.. which means yeah he won't be hated but also we could reasonably expect someone else to take a chance. Which means he'd be less objectively bad cos at least we get some money back.
And I don't think that second point is fair, unless he does it in the PL.

The bigger the price, the bigger the scrutiny. Them the rules 🤷♂️.
Right, but my original point was that people seem unanimous that Ndombele has been a worse signing (hence the easy ride comment - people seem happy to overlook Gil's statistical terribleness because he's a nice lad who tries). I think that's pretty demonstrably untrue. Ndombele has been a horror signing too, obviously, but he actually impacted games - a fair few of them - in his time at Spurs. Even if the number of games is depressingly low for a player of his ability, it's still better than facking zero.
If someone pays a decent fee for Gil then I guess that would be a factor

I'd say giving Sevilla £20m + Lamela + Bryan Gil himself for a year was a pretty big price for 40 games across 3 seasons

Yeah and I think that's valid to an extent. There's things the player can control - actually trying, improving over time, general attitude.. then there's things they can't - the fee and wages, managers using them poorly..
Ndombele is clearly worst on the first, no debate. And even if you ignore the fee his wages are sickening. Plus the lack of resale value, his cost to us is going to be huge.
