Connor Callagher`s move to Atletico is set to collapse lol.

I really hope we have no wish to try again for him, I did not want him before. and we are led to believe he showed no desire to join us, so I certainly don`t want him now, apparently he had his chance so no thanks.

Not fussed about about another CM unless we sell Bissouma. Don't mind promoting Devine.

Some guy on SC reckons we are signing simon adingra from brighton but he is not a regular ITK.

I reckon we waited for Neto and biffed off other targets. Panic again. Same as BJ.

Lots of links to Locatelli from Juve today.

Could be a Paratici special. Talk of a 25m euro dealThat would be cheap but then again we got Bentancur for 19m from them. This would be a good addition, a bit more steal in the deep CM position

a very good player a few seasons back, what's happened that he wants out
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No fancied by new manager, brought in Thuram from Nice and Luiz from Villa, so his game time may be more limited....i read somewhere!

Just having a catch up on the transfer window.
Doesn't look like anyone's really signed anyone Danny Rose has heard of?

Jonathan David scored the winner for Lille, to knock out Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbache, in Champions League qualifiers….

Can’t see him coming to Spurs now…shame as he has all the attributes we need, in a player!! 😞

I'm really not sure about our business so far. We've bought a centre forward, which we needed, but elsewhere I'm not sure if we've successfully plugged the gaps. Gray looks a talent but he's definitely not a replacement for PEH so we're short of a calm 6. Gray seems more of an 8 to me. Bergvall looks great and will be good cover for Maddison but left back cover, holding midfield and wide forward positions are definitely areas we're short in.

Personally I'm not convinced at all down that left hand side, aside from from Udogie. Son is obviously a legend but I have my doubts about his game fitting in with Ange's philosophy of wingers staying wide and getting low crosses in. That's just not his game. Same on the other side. Kulu just doesn't fit the system. He cuts back and congests the midfield area.

There's still so much work to be done regarding recruitment and here we are 5 days out from the start of the season and I think it's fair to say that, whilst we've signed some promising youngsters, none of them occupy positions we're currently weak in. Recruitment has been really odd this year.

Im sure we'll end the window with a good balance, even if that includes a loan deal.

I dont think we have the funds to by CM AM and LC/LCB and also have a couple players who need shifting.

I think we may get 1 or 2 new signings and a loan or 2 to cover.

But there are still lots of linked players who havent gone anywhere - Doue, Eze, Gallagher, Williams Chiesa, Ugarte, Osimhen, Ramsey, Toney etc

The one thing i hope for is that our transfer team have options lined up ready to go. They cannot always control whether we secure our no.1 choices, someone like Eze may be waiting for City for example, but they need to be able to react and make final and quick decisions to ensure we get the cover the squad needs before the window shuts. No last minute Frazer Campbell debacles please.

Totally get that but I worry when our approach to recruitment becomes opportunistic rather than strategically planned.

There's always moving parts and I understand for various reasons why it might not be possible to get your first choice in (double agent Mendes/Neto for example) but our best work is done when we've got things done with little fuss for a data-lead target early doors.

Basically if we're scrambling around panicking at the end of August, I'd rather we save the money for someone we plan for rather than being offered players by desperate agents. That feels old school Levy and I thought we'd moved beyond those days.

Of the names you've listed, Eze I doubt will be coming because of the fixed rate clause. Doue is off to PSG isn't he? Gallagher I'm sure will end up at A Madrid, Williams The rest I've not seen any concrete interest in.

We'll see. I'd like to see us sign more but not if it's just an act of desperation. Probably makes more sense to get rid of the players we absolutely don't need first. That's been holding us back for years.

I think recent years has shown a more strategic approach. Lots of targets looked at and sounded out (the Paratici way), some got in early while others when the time is right.

It may get a bit frantic towards the end but we will no doubt be picking from a list of players we have identified.

and maybe some of those will be loans to fill gaps short term rather than being long term solutions.

Like if we missed out on Eze but got Coman on loan, that wouldnt be so bad, or even Zaha could be a decent loan shout. He wants to 'come home' apparently.

I'm pretty confident we will end this window with a few more quality additions that improve us...and i hope i am not disappointed

-----------
It feels like it this window. Would we have signed Archie Gray if Leeds were not in trouble with PSR and they wanted Joe Rodon?

Werner not wanted by RB and is on big wages for the Bundesliga.

Solanke we have been chasing for a while but we have added to a position where we already had Richy, Kulu and Lankshear.

We have one decent Left Back who can invert and Micky as a Left CB. Drag could probably play LCB at a push but the left hand side of defence has NO depth.

The same for right wing.

As I said yday, I think behind the scenes they will be panicking. Ideally Ange should have had his squad assembled by now but waiting for Neto has hurt us big time and put a spanner in the works.

Panicking! Honestly?

Who have we missed out on? Neto may be.

We didnt have to get Gray, Leeds would have taken Rodon for £10m anyway...and at £40m we hardly 'took advantage of Leeds'. They may not have sold him if they had sorted other deals but to suggest we'd sign a 40m kid as opportunism is bonkers. Getting Solomon for zip is opportunism.

There is work still to be done and the test will be whether it gets down and done well.

But be honest, if we went into the season with Deki Richi & Lankshear as our striker options (Deki aint a striker!!!!), you would not be happy. I would not be happy.

To talk down Solanke as a deal we didnt need to do Surely fans are excited about our no.9 options now. That's the sort of depth that can see us rotate and not have fans moan that the manager rotated us out of the cups!

posted on 14/8/24

Yeah I don't think we're panicking either. Or that we were waiting on Neto. I think if anything we've had to wait for outgoings to do signings.

posted on 14/8/24

We haven't signed Eze or Gallagher and they have been long term targets as well. Don't think we are prepared to pay what Palace want or the structure of the fee.

Do we even need him when a left sided defender or right winger should be priority?

We have enough left sided players and I am not convinced Eze would make a good number 8 to compete with Maddison. Defo offers something to Son or Werner but no point having three.

Do you really thing Leeds wanted to sell their own academy product Archie Gray? Of course not! We took advantage because of their own financial mess.

I'm not talking down Solanke but spending £65m on a position where we are well stacked doesn't make sense when we are under cooked at left defence and right wing.

Deki doesn't need to be a striker. He needs to be a good false 9 who can hold up the ball for likes of weak Son and BJ with a trick or two. And he is more dangerous at CF than any other position. Don't sleep on him with the other fishes.

Ok we may not be panicking but the A lists targets are all pretty much gone or over priced like Eze. Doue is going PSG as well.

We are on the B or C list now.

But you are right about selling players as well and the squad is bloated and under balanced in some areas.

In regards to Neto, WLB was talking up Neto over the summer saying Ange really liked him and gave him the talk. Neto seemed keen. We made our bid and thought we had more time. Chelsea met the fee and the deal was done. Classic.

Defence, no. Though the starters are all good enough. Midfield is going to be a moving target with Bergvall especially looking like he could be an upgrade or at least very good competition for Maddison. Ditto Gray and Sarr

Prof:

Still trying for a winger but getting one of the top few names on our list has proven to be more difficult than anticipated. As I mentioned in a post a few days ago, if there isn't a breakthrough in negotiations with one of the two players we believe are significant upgrades, we'll be faced with the decision of either spending significant money on a player who may be somewhere between 0 and 10% better than what we have, or keeping our financial powder dry until January in the hope that someone higher up the list shakes loose.

Vintage Levy.

False 9 ? have you been watching Spurs under Ange

Solanke suits the system. So does Richi to be fair, but he has not proven reliable so far.

We saw last season the low blocks killed us, esp. with Son up front. No striker and a false 9, how'd you expect that to be effective?

Can't believe we would spend that much on a RB when we have Porro and Spence now seems to be in the circle of trust.

Spence has played LB pre-season and i hope that's just getting him game time as opposed to a genuine option as Udogie cover.

That said, if he is cover at LB, may be that's a position we prioritise in future windows...which is fine but so long as we add another CM and attacker.
