I'm really not one for the old "Premier League is higher quality" argument, but at the very least, Trippier's success in Spain shows it's much more accommodating for slow players
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the refereeing standards may also have something to do with it.
Trippier is too slow on the runback, but English referees let an awful lot of stuff go that are fouls.

I don't think the PL is better really, but it's definitely different to other countries. Winks doesn't cope that well with being pressed and is weak in the challenge. In Spain or Italy this would be less of a problem.

Laporte available for transfer?? Even with his injuries we should be all over this.

Contrary to popular belief I think it tells you everything that he isnt one we should be actively looking to sell because of how he is one we will have no trouble finding lots of suitors.

Yeah but it's not like Dele where he's got the potential to go to a top club and smash it. If he goes to Everton he'll be competing with Tom Davies and Gomes for a spot. We wouldn't be chasing after them.

#thfc are interested in signing Jérôme Boateng as a free agent in the summer. |

Not for me. If that's the profile we're looking at I'd prefer Hummels

I'd kind of prefer the average age to go down rather than up.

Is Boateng still any good?

Yeah I don't see that signing 32 year olds is going to do us much good. Andersen seems like the ideal option

I do think if levy is backing his man then an older, "leader" profile will be sought after.

We clearly need a leader in the back line tbf. Hasn't he also specified PL experience, though?

The way I see it Mourinho has been backed quite a bit already and hasn't shown so far he deserves any more backing. If we finish the season strongly then we can reassess. He should be fighting to keep his job past this season at the moment never mind getting backed with players.

If we don't finish the season that strongly and he gets to stay on then I certainly wouldn't want us to give him much money or many new players when I wouldn't have faith in him doing anything next season. The onus should be on him to get more out of the players he's got in that scenario.

While that's obviously true if they're old players on big wages uncertainty over the manager shouldn't stop us making signings that are good for the club. Andersen being a prime example, I think.

I agree. We can still make signings that are good for the future. Let's say a Bergwijn-type signing that wasn't about Jose, as we had been scouting him for a while before he was made manager.

But I'd rather not get a load of Jose signings that will ultimately make us a mess when he gets sacked midway into the season. I'd rather go without signings if that was the alternative. I mean I'll have already felt it was a mistake to have kept him on after an average finish to the season so wouldn't want us to add to that mistake.

Sabitzer would be like the Bergwijn signing. And like Ace says, we've been linked with Andersen since he was at Sampdoria.
