One of many articles quoting the same thing. Now Nagelsmann himself has since denied this but of course he would wouldn't he. He can't announce anything until Flick has gone. It's 100% in the bag.
Even then, if he knew Bayern were the level of club interested but for some absurd reason turned them down, he wouldn't then stoop as low as us. He won't turn them down though. Boyhood club, best in the world? "Nah thanks, I'm going to spurs for a Europa League qualification match"
Matthaus is a club legend by the way. He'll have the inside track no doubt.

According to Ali G, he and Brenda were our top 2 choices to replace Jose should Jose get the welly
So with Nagelsmann gone, does that mean Brenda is the next one to reject us?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Apparently that one is a no go as the pandemic and stadium shut down has meant we can't afford to pay Leicester the sum required to get him. If you factor in the Jose pay off, that's quite a lot of money.
Doesn't leave us with many great options. I was really hoping for Nagelsmann and prior to Low announcing he was leaving the Germany job with the German FA approaching Flick, it might have been possible. We're not the best in the league but we are a Prem club and that is quite the carrot to dangle. It's just not the same carrot as Bayern unfortunately.
I honestly think Levy will go for an out of work manager and hope it works out, like an Allegri or Sarri. I'm really not sure on either. They'd be expensive and a real risk. Maybe he'll go Potter as he'll be cheap and to be honest, I wouldn't be against it. Throughout the last 20 years we've had way more success with unknown types like Redknapp (unknown globally) and Poch rather than the big guns like Santini, Ramos and Jose. Maybe Potter would work out. My only reservation would be how many players would want to sign for him. I guess that comes with time. Players didn't want to play for Poch until he turned us into a well drilled machine.
We were never gonna get him anyway, laughable that people thought he was an option for us.

I think we could have before this Bayern thing popped up. Genuinely had a chance. So unfortunate with timing. It happens though. We nearly had Van Gaal before United approached him. Dodged a bullet with that one though.

Or are people over that one?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Isn't he going to Celtic?
I think that would be a good move for him. He's gone down in people's estimations of him (including mine) since not making any progress with Bournemouth. That might sound somewhat harsh but with the money spent they should have performed a bit better in the league and their defence was always terrible. Hopefully he can redeem his rep in Scotland like Rodgers has.
Would not have him at Spurs when their are better versions of him about.
Stevie Gerrard just to anoy Sandy
Whilst the options aren't great, I'm very much in the 'anyone but Mourinho' camp.
I'd have Brendan Rogers, but let's face it; Leicester are a better bet than us right now.
We could really do with a DoF that knows what they're talking about, supported by a scouting structure that know what a good player looks like.

I don't see why he's not in the running in the same way Potter is. Eddie Howe consistently had Bournemouth playing some lovely stuff and for about 5 seasons easily avoided relegation. It was a combination of catastrophic injuries and poor recruitment that finished him off. If the reason for Potter's name being mentioned is good football with a poor-ish team, then Howe is also that guy. the only difference is that Howe produced more results than Potter has managed. They might even still go down in his first full season.
There is a downside to all these names. People like Potter and Howe can easily become the Roberto Martinez of their day. He moves from Wigan, who had a reputation for good football, to Everton and actually made them leaky as feck. that's the risk with these types. You're never sure if they're going to work out. The one thing we knew about Poch at Southampton was that he had the players running around like rabid dogs and lifted them from relegation contenders to top half in the Prem. I don't think that was as much of a gamble as managers like Potter or Howe.
I honestly don't know where we go from here. It doesn't really matter which manager we get from here. We need a philosophy we stick to and a recruitment policy that matches. Right now we're all over the place. If we don't get that right, then how do we choose the right manager?
