I'm not down playing the need for medication for anyone but this lack of care for mental health is unbelievable
"Just do it", that's up there with man up or you'll be fine for those struggling
That emphasises my point, at which do mental health deaths surpass the virus?
"Just do it" ffs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't there's 800 people killing themselves each day but I could be wrong.
I've been very open about my depression and mental health on here in the past. I'll be perfectly honest.. Lockdown is starting to get to me a bit, the lack of socialising etc but I know it's for a reason and won't last forever.
It's about thinking of the greater good than just myself

Too many people think about the cost of everything and yet know the value of nothing!! If this pandemic teaching us anything it should be, firstly, that we are better as part of a larger union who can then best use its buying power, trade agreement etc and that the smallest and weakest can be looked after by the largest strongest and, secondly, we simply need to change this entire economic system away from the free market “I’m all right jack” system that Reagan and thatcher cobbled together 40 years ago!! We need a more caring economy that puts people before profit, value before cost and the many before the few!! We have to learn from this!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Having a union with tories and having a more caring economy are completely opposite ideas.
Can you imagine trying to persuade BawJaws, Rees-Mogg and Pritti Patel about the merits of a more caring economy?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I absolutely agree and that is why we need to change but we will not change with these people in charge!! We have today learned about the cost of saving a life, what about the value in saving that life!! By that I mean the daughter who has not went into a deep depression because her father has survived and doesnt need to be propped up by the state. The wife who will now not lose her house because her husband has lived and can still work!! The son who does it have to give up his job to look after his mum and sister who no longer need that help because his father lived!! Etc etc etc
Can we please stop putting a cost against people’s lives and stop putting bean counters in charge of our countries!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes. Their approach is very controversial.

depends of your definition of worse 2k deaths without lockdown but observing social distancing (that we completely failed at and had to lockdown)
based on population size their deaths are about a third less than ours. all without lockdown

How may carriers arrived in Sweden Jan Feb ?
Compared to the UK?
What are the general health stats excluding this virus when compared to the UK?
What are the general hygiene standards like compared to the UK?
So many factors outwith how each country reacted.
How does Sweden compare with Denmark?
The UK with France?
Spain with Italy?
Singapore with HK?
Probably differentials in them all but they probably have closer dermographics than the UK - Sweden.

We’re all going to pay for this further down the line, but for now the fight is against suppressing the virus. I’ve resigned myself for these measures to continue until the end of June.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can’t see it mate. There’ll be a gradual return as we learn to live with this. I’m not suggesting for a second we’ll be anything like back to normal by June btw.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We’re looking at a very grim near future under the present circumstances.
How is the world going to recover economically under completely new rules where normal movement is not an option?
Having Trump in power at this time is a concern. He’s just one step away from doing something REALLY stupid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And this is why I slate Sturgeon. She comes out with bland statements about how businesses will just change to adhere to social distancing which in itself is in contradiction to WHO guidelines.
Who pays for all these changes to processes? The company who has furloughed staff, made redundancies and used up its cash reserves? And how long would all this take.
She just hands the problem on.

Teachers get PPE but not the pupils?
OK, the pupils less likely to die but a bigger impact to people if they do versus an 80yo.

----------
This BBC news story, widely reported, is highly questionable: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52389044
It makes the case that because a non-statistically-significant difference exists between front-line and non-frontline NHS staff in terms OF HOW MANY TEST POSITIVE AFTER SHOWING SYMPTOMS (around 14% on average), that frontline workers should feel "reassured".
However, just because a similar proportion are found to be infected AFTER showing symptoms does NOT mean similar numbers are getting infected. In the original Lancet article, the sample of just over 1000 people were all people tested BECAUSE they already presented with relevant Covid symptoms. This was NOT mentioned on the BBC article.
This matters because crucially, the proportion of frontline staff in the sample presenting with symptoms was 81%, dwarfing those presenting with symptoms in other groups. (https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30970-3/fulltext). Again, this was NOT explained by BBC.
The Lancet article does make clear that frontline staff tests were prioritised, likely inflating this proportion, but to not include any mention of the relative proportions of staff demonstrating symptoms, or that this is an important consideration when interpreting the results, seems at best a whopping oversight, and at worst irresponsibly misleading from the BBC.
The Lancet article if anything highlights that frontline staff remain at far greater risk of EXPOSURE, and underscores the importance of adequate PPE.
