It looks a decent pitch, the overhead conditions played the pivotal role in them both wanting to bowl. The Lords pitch is usually a pretty good pitch to bat on.

It used to be. The average score over the past 5 years has gone from nearly 400 to around 200. They have made a very conscious effort to leave more grass on it than they used to.

Fair enough! Guess we'll see how the day goes. I think we've bowled okay this morning and haven't made it easy for India but we've not looked too threatening either save for a couple of deliveries. Ideally need to bag a couple of wickets before lunch you feel.
Mark Ramprakash is just dreadful at everything.

Another Graeme Hick. Had everything needed to be a top international player except the mindset. He has admitted that he was too emotional when he went out to bat. Got himself too psyched up rather than just play his game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How does he explain his crap commentary though?
Feels like the match is already slipping away to be honest. Doubt conditions are going get any more bowler-friendly and we haven't picked up a wicket.
Yes that's right, I'm calling it after 18 overs
Remember these guys put on almost 100 for the first wicket last time out and we still pegged them back. Then Jadeja pulled them away again but it was still under 300 so we're still in this game. Wood hasn't even had a bowl yet!

Literally every side does this
Anyone read the article about slow over rates and docking points ect?
To me is a simple and easy fix.
For example if India bowled 82 out of the allotted 90 overs in the game take the highest run rate out of all the session eg session 2 was 3.45 and times it by how many overs you didn't bowl.
8x3.45 = 27.6 round up to 28 and add to the batting team score.
It's gets a little tricky when both teams bowl in the same day but I'm sure they can work around it afterall the did invent that stupid duckworth and Lewis system.

Its certainly a problem and adding runs to a side's total seems a good way to encourage captains to speed things up.

Lots of practice
Wood looks on it here, he's bowling with serious pace, over 90mph with every ball getting more into the mid 90s now. Just need to not over bowl him.

Okay now it might be getting away from us with Rohit in and accelerating. Fortunately Rahul is batting slower than Sibley down the other end so a breakthrough or two will get us back in it.

Tim Griffiths: If you put the opposition in and they are 50-0 then you did the wrong thing. England would be at least two down had they batted and that’s the real reason why.

2 down is optimistic
I agree though, I think Root would have batted if he had confidence in the batsmen.
Great batting conditions now.
Rohit vs Moeen should be fun.
