Tim Griffiths: If you put the opposition in and they are 50-0 then you did the wrong thing. England would be at least two down had they batted and that’s the real reason why.

Unless theres loads of live grass on a pitch in England you always bat first.. Because pitches in England are flat and slow.
Just looking at the 11. we are a batter short and bowler short. If we lose this game.. Sack Silverwood. hes tripe
DO SOMETHING ECB. other than collect your wages

Maybe India just have better batsmen, whether they were put in or not.

This team is worse than the team of the late 1990s and thats saying something.India will get 600+ here.
Means England need to bat for at least 3 days.. with 20 wickets.. NO CHANCE..

Get a grip mate, improvements have been made under Silverwood, it was awful under Bayliss and he had Ben Stokes in the form of his life playing in that side as well as Alastair Cook.

Up until the 2nd test in India, we were looking pretty good but their class came through as they're a better side than us, even more so in India. NZ were better than us but they're the World Test Champions so that's no surprise.

Haa improvments.. what like beating a terrible Sri_lanka team? We have been poor for years.

Need plenty of wickets.

We would have lost 3 wickets by this stage

If Sibley was batting England would be 43 for no loss now. He will play no shots at all (because he cant) then after getting 22 in off 240 balls. He would get out to a wide shot.

Like posting scores over 400 which we rarely ever managed under Bayliss. Batsmen actually looking to get themselves in and put first innings runs on the board. It hasn't happened as much since the first test against India but the quality of opposition has been high and other than Root, the batsmen have been poor. Burns missing some games hasn't helped either but generally we're trying to bat the right way for test cricket. We're getting out to far less ridiculous and rash shots like we used to under Bayliss.

Also beating SL in SL is a decent achievement regardless of the quality. Turning pitches facing spinners opening the bowling, our batsmen won't face that far too often in their careers.

Still puzzles me when people want to see us move on from Jimmy. Still our best bowler by a distance.

I know Sharma raced up to 80 odd but Rahul has batted really well here. Done the hard graft and looks solid but has got all the shots to be able to attack when the ball is there to be hit.

Typical - perfect batting wicket and what do we do - let the Indians bat
