Tactics - 7 - Against the top teams, he has proven that he is able to set the team up in the proper way. Our results against the top teams has significantly improved since he took over, and we've had quite a few special results in that time. Though, obviously there are also some pretty big failings against smaller teams, and particularly in finals & semi finals.

Team selection - 7 - Not much to be said for this - I don't think he really has much choice in the team that he plays most of the time, though it'd be nice to see VDB get more game time. I do absolutely love the amount of youth players getting chances under him though.

Style of play - 5 - Last season we relied heavily on Bruno, and our left wing & it certainly cost us some points not being able to play in a different way. We are one of the best counter attacking teams in the world at the moment, but as soon as we have more of the ball we struggle to break teams down.

Man management - 8 - Treatment of VDB has not been great, but he's handling the GK situation. Competition is good for the team & prevents complacency. I don't know what else people want him to do with the GKs...

Substitutions - Tricky one this. 7 - His substitutions are super frustrating in that they come very late, and often appear to be the wrong subs. Saying that though, I saw some stats last season that basically put Ole's substitutions as amongst the most impactful subs when made. Would be nice to see them earlier, but the boss obviously knows what he's doing, even if it is frustrating.

Team morale - 10 - I haven't seen a United team that seems this happy for many years. To a large degree, he's brought our United back. Hands down this is the best thing he's done for United so far. There seems to be a real buzz around the team.

Achievements - 5 - This has been the most disappointing aspect. There has certainly been progress, and I'm optimistic that the progress will continue. But we've lost too many semi finals & finals. Finishing in the top 4/2nd is all well and good, but you don't get a trophy for that. I wont go as far as to say he has to win one this season, because I don't think that's a reasonable thing to say, but there's only so far 'improvements' can go.

Overall, I am happy with Ole as manager, I think it's clear to see that we have improved and are improving. Our squad is so much better than it was when he took over, he's bringing in the right kind of players, he's bringing youth through. Genuinely excited to be a United fan at the moment, which isn't something I've been able to say since SAF. His handling of the media, for the most part has been excellent.

If Ole left tomorrow, he's left United in a far, far better place than when he took over. I believe he has shown more than enough to continue as United manager for the foreseeable, and actually he'd have to properly fvck something up to be made to leave.

Obviously there are frustrations, games like Wolves make that evident, but I believe he has earned the time to address things like that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree with all this, so don't have to type it myself 👍
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bang on. But obviously this will be seen as too pro Ole despite it being as balanced as can be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Balanced?

A 7 for tactics, and yet Saints and Wolves bossed us.

7 for team selection despite the first 11 picking itself and the poor handling of Donny and the fact we have 2 No 1's.

7 for Substitutions?

10 for morale? Dan James has been flogged after 2 seasons, Donny has taken to having his agent speak out about broken promises, we have 2 GK-s who think of themsleves as 1st choice, Baily has been unhappy, ans hiw do we think Martial will take to being 4th choice CF?

Balanced my ar5e

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I really hope you don't mean that.
That we should play Donny to please Donny.
That having two top goalkeepers fighting for their place is poor.
Selling a player who after numerous chances wasn't good enough
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You think 2 GK's who think they are no 1 isnt an issue. What about when 1 finds out they are no 2?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They will have to raise their game won't they? Or move on. Natural churn is part of any squad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You think either will be happy being no 2?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

There you go then. Unhappy players equals bad for team morale.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Only if they are making problems. If they are unhappy at not being in the team but doing their best to get back in the team during training then the will lift performance levels. Its all about man-management, and Ole seems pretty good at that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah. Look how that worked out for Donny.

Ole on Butts role in 2019.

"There's always been a big void since I was at the club, when I took the Reserves, about how the pathway is going to be from Under 18s to the first team. It's a difficult one,”

“We've got different examples, but this club has been based on young players coming through and we'll always rely on kids coming through and Nicky is going to be in charge of that.”

So, no mention that Ole appointed Butt, who'd already been at the club 7 years at this point.

And it states Butt would be in charge of bringing kids through (not Ole)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have read an article where Ole discusses the coaches that came in/were promoted during the summer of 2019 and Ole talks about him bringing them in - including the senior keeping coach that came from Molde and also Clegg.

And yes, of course Butt is in charge of bringing the kids through. But the point I was making is that Ole is more reliant and focused on the youth setup than Jose was. He has made changes to ensure that we do better in this area. Butt himself has spoken about how he will (would) work with Ole:

As part of his new job, Butt will now report directly to former team-mate and current Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It is said that he will "work closely with the manager and the first team coaching staff to create a seamless journey for young players stepping up to the next level".

Manchester United have announced a restructure of their academy system, with Nicky Butt earning a significant promotion.

United confirmed on Monday that the 44-year-old had been promoted to the new position of head of first-team development, with Nick Cox elevated to fill his previous role as head of academy.

As part of his new job, Butt will now report directly to former team-mate and current Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It is said that he will "work closely with the manager and the first team coaching staff to create a seamless journey for young players stepping up to the next level".

Butt said: "Manchester United is in my DNA and this is a very proud moment for me as I take on this new role.

"I am passionate about nurturing, developing and coaching the talent we have here to become top players at this club.

"Under Ole’s leadership, our vision will ensure that we continue to provide the right environment for our young players to thrive in.”

Provide quotes where he has claimed to being in the academy and u23 staff

Butt and Fortune have left the club and Wood had been rhere years when he was moced to U23's manager (no metion he was appointed by Ole though)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fortune was at Cardiff with Ole as the U21 coach. You don't think that Ole had a say in him going to United? Just a coincidence eh?

What does it matter if they have now left the club?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You said he did. Back that up, or admit you are wrong
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not wrong. I have read an article where Ole discussed the appointments made in the summer of 2019 and how he 'brought them in' or wards to that affect.

There have been some new coaching appointments as Man Utd this summer and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had his say on them.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes the backroom staff he has bought to Old Trafford this summer understand what being at Manchester United is all about.

Solskjaer has added Michael Clegg to his staff, having played with the former United trainee during his time at the club, while his dad, Mick Clegg, was a strength and conditioning coach during Solskjaer's time at Old Trafford.

The United boss has also added Richard Hartis to his staff as a goalkeeping coach. Hartis spent a decade working with United's academy and has since had senior roles with Solskjaer at Molde and Cardiff.

Two former Reds were also put in charge of the Under-23s earlier this week, with Neil Wood the lead coach and Quinton Fortune his assistant.

Solskjaer insists bringing people in with an understanding of the club and of how he works is important.

“We’ve got a couple of ex-Manchester United people, even ex-players," Solskjaer told the club's official website.

"You’ve got Mike Clegg, who I played with and had his dad as a coach in the gym here. We’ve got Richard, who I have worked with for seven or eight years, so I’m really close to him.

"And Ed [Leng] has come in as well, in that group of people. He is not a Man United guy, but he’s worked with Warren Joyce – of course, he’s a United guy and I worked with him. They all know what the club is about and what I’m about. They are great people for me to bring in.

"Of course, with Woody in the reserves. I brought Quinny to Cardiff with me as well. It didn’t last long, but Quinton is a Man United guy and this will be good."

Solskjaer has been keen to either bring former players back into roles at the club, such as Mike Phelan as his assistant, while also retaining the services of those who were already there, such as Michael Carrick.

He is keen to see that enthusiasm of being at United rub off on his new players heading into the 2019/20 season, having finished the last campaign with a whimper.

"You know, we’re here to excite people and to excite ourselves," Solskjaer said. "We are here to enjoy coming to work, working hard and every day here has got to be one of the best days of your life.

"The game I played at Old Trafford over the summer, 26 May, was one of the best times I’ve had in the last 12 years since I retired. Just to be on that pitch. We’re here to provide that environment for the players to get ready and to enjoy our football so we can excite the fans."

Why should anyone bother? Seriously, you argue like a theist typically does. You're happy to lean back on your own assertions and ignorance but then constantly demand really specific things like quotes etc because you clearly just don't read into anything going on at the club.

Why are you here? Serious question, you honestly come across like you're main goal is to to be antagonistic. I can't think of a time I've seen you link anything as evidence or provided any detail/context to support your claims but you constantly demand it of others. It's a really childish, ignorant way to interact with people.

Butt on Solskjaer:

"Even though he wasn’t an academy member, he came as a very young boy and was lost, didn’t know what to do and embraced the club and ended up becoming one of the family.

"We’re fortunate at the minute that Ole is in the hot seat. He’s coached in the academy, he did his coaching badges with academy players and coaches, so he knows pretty much everybody right down to the Under-12s in the club and that can only be beneficial."

------------

Immediately after returning from a warm-weather training camp in Marbella, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly spent 90 minutes watching Manchester United’s under-13s players training.

Solskjaer was joined by the majority of the first team squad for the last 20 minutes. It’s the benefit of having the youth squads and the first team training in the same location at the Carrington Aon Training Complex.

It’s yet another example of Solskjaer’s focus on the academy and the long-term future of United. This is not the first time he’s been spotted at a training session of a young side. The motivation that it will provide to those under-13s players is unmatched.

----------

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given eight Academy players their first-team debuts for Manchester United during the 2019/20 campaign, equalling a 67-year-old mark set by Sir Matt Busby.

------------

MANCHESTER UNITED assistant Mark Dempsey - who worked with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Cardiff and Molde before joining him at Old Trafford - is switching to a new role with the club’s Academy.

After joining United, Solskjaer said of his assistant: “Demps - I've worked with him now since 2011 when I moved back to Norway, he came with me to Molde.

“He's a Manchester United lad through and through, he came through with Norman Whiteside and Mark Hughes in that youth team. He knows what this means.”

------------

There were other subtle changes along the way. The players liaison officers were moved away from the canteen, meaning that the players had to go and find them rather than the other way around.

Their former offices were soon occupied by youth-team coaches, analysts and others focussed on developing performance on the field rather than settling unpaid parking fines off it.

The leadership style also moved away from being dictatorial to more collaborative, with Solskjaer involving his players in the decision-making process.

One great example came during a training camp in Dubai in January 2019, when the manager sat down with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard to plot the pressing game and counter-attacking style that would be employed against Tottenham.

They went on to enact the plan perfectly at Wembley and won 1-0 with a goal from Rashford

----------

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coached United’s younger sides for eight years. Butt appreciates his commitment to youth, but also recognises the difficulties inherent in the policy.

“Ole Gunnar is passionate about bringing young players through but it’s hard to do it in a team which is struggling. Everyone talks about our decade (the Class of ’92) but it was a lot easier being around world class players who were used to winning leagues.

“You need experienced players to help young players. At the moment you are looking at Scott (McTominay) to drive the team, Mason (Greenwood) to try and get us a goal. They should be the ones coming on at 1-0, 2-0 and 3-0 and showing how good they are for the future. It’s difficult times for the manager to bring to bring young players in but he’s still been doing it and that indicates how supportive he is of the youth system.”

-----------
Greenwood added: "Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] is a major part. He has done it himself and knows what is he is talking about. Everyone listens to him. He helps me a lot.

"Obviously, Kieran [McKenna] as well. I was with him in my first season in the youth team and now he's with the first team."

-------------

He's clearly involved but obviously to a degree he's able to be as a first team manager.

There is a ton of supporting quotes, articles, blogs etc which go into his man management.

The goalkeeping situation is really clutching at straws. We have two good keepers and both seem happy. There's zero issue with seeing the situation develop and then making one the outright number 1. Chelsea had a similar situation I believe with Courtois and Cech and eventually opted for Courtois.

You are still bringing up Donny as some kind of point to prove the squad is badly man managed. He's said in his own words he's happy. He understands he can't be promised specific game time and is satisfied with the meetings he's had about it.

You constantly bringing it up just shows your line of thinking is just not that of anybody else, including the player.

Back-to-back top 4, which even though is the minimum requirement I thought I should give him something.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
First time a United manager has achieved that since Fergie left.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The whole point of top 4 is CL football. We had back-to-back CL qualification under Jose. His first season we qualified by winning the Europa, which is a more of an achievement as it's an actual trophy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That doesn't contradict what I said though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No it doesn't—well done for getting your words right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure what your point is. In terms of league consistency he's been better than the other three managers since Fergie. Two full seasons, two top four finishes. If top four is par for a United manager (you said 'minimum requirement' ) then you'll have to amend your score to a 5, neither good nor bad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Winning a cup will probably get you at least a 5. Top 4 with this squad isn't really an achievement. I wouldn't read too much into it though, I didn't go through rigorous scientific research before assigning the scores.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

No quotes their to say Ole brought in the Academty and U23 staff as someone claimed.

Ole himself has said we have 2 No 1's. Its not a poaition you rotate.

Well, it is, as he brought in his own team that he believed would help to better develop the youth. Jose apparently didn't really give much attention to it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Who is this team Ole brought in?

Where did you get this info from?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Neil Wood
Nicky Butt
Quinton Fortune
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He brought them from Molde did he?

They're not his 'own team'.

You seem to forget there are other people behind the scenes taking care of this stuff.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven't forgotten anything. Nor have I given Ole sole credit for the youth setup. It is a joint effort, of which Ole is part. But the usual morons refuse to admit that he has anything to do with the youth setup. Despite the fact there were quite a few changes in terms of processes, setup and personnel right after he became permanent manager. Must have been a coincidence I guess. Nothing to do with Ole.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The way you talk makes it seem like Ole is some sort of expert troubleshooter who the club hired to solve its problems. When in fact he's from a small league and failed at Cardiff. So while he has a say in certain things, the club haven't given him full control—they're working as a team.

I don't think anything anybody says will do anything. You get a similar response from anti vaxxers, trump supporters, flat earthers etc.
