Technically we could have, but like the 27 other member states, we’d have used the EU Vaccine Scheme.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany etc all approved additional vaccines that were outside of the EU vaccination schemes. So states, whilst signing up to it were also approved other vaccines separately.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So why were we miles ahead of all the EU? Saying Brexit had nothing to do with it is daft. It’s the only real benefit seen from Brexit, there’s plenty wrong with it. Best to stick with those items.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The problem was the "best endeavours" contract the Commission signed with AZ. And AZ being unable to fulfill the contract as it over promised/under delivered.
Nevertheless the premise of bulk ordering/mass procurement is/was sound, as you can acquire huge amounts of a commodity at a lower outlay. The EU just messed up its contract with AZ.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Again, the contracts were identical and the EU signed one day ahead of the UK. The problem lies in the fact that the UK contract was under UK jurisdiction and the EU contract was under Belgian jurisdiction and therefor a legal struggle kicked off when under delivering.
The reason the UK was ahead of the UK is that the UK started planning logistics well ahead of the EU as it is a UK company and the UK worked closely with AZ, something the EU couldnt/didnt do.

George W Bush's campaigns consciously targeted what they called 'low information voters'. I'm sure it has been part of the Republican play book for longer than that. It's always a feature of authoritarian populist movements (which currently we associate mainly with right-wing politics but is also capable of cropping up on the Left, e.g. Chavez's Venezuela and the Bolshevik propaganda in revolutionary Russia).

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Right and would we have been part of that contract?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If we chose to. Had nothing to do with EU membership though. The Commission sent out it's vaccine procurement scheme offer to non member states as well as EFTA.
The EU also used its procurement scheme to export 43 million doses of vaccines around the world.
https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_21_1352
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Stop avoiding the question - would we have been part of that deal? How many members were part of that deal? It’s the one benefit, it’s ok to admit it. We’ve been over this to death on the other thread.
There are plenty of negatives, this is just one singular benefit
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven't
For the avoidance of doubt, there was no requirement for the UK (or any EU member state for that matter) to join the EU vaccine procurement scheme.
To characterise it as a Brexit benefit is simply untrue.
https://fullfact.org/health/coronavirus-vaccine-brexit/
https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/blog/covid-vaccine-decisions-brexit
https://www.bbc.com/news/55163730
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/pfizer-biontech-covid-19-vaccine-mhra-statement
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Stop posting the same information- we know that we had the option to do our own vaccine procurement.
But you are avoiding the question because you know what the answer is.
And let’s not forget about NI, shall we?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You (falsely) cited the vaccine roll out as a "Brexit benefit" when it had nothing to do with it.
You also suggested the UK "would we have been part of that contract" when there was no requirement for MS to sign up to the scheme.
The Brexiteers were so desperate to highlight any benefits of Brexit, they jumped upon the EU procurement mess up with AZ.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sigh
How many of the eu member states were part of that AZ contract? How many? All of them? And you think it’s wrong to say that we also would have been? Really? Come on mate…
It’s not just the contractual mess up - we paid more, paid sooner and ordered sooner if memory serves. Bulk ordering to save money works great when there’s a bountiful supply. Don’t think I would have taken that risk
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There was no contractual mess up. AZ simply underdelivered to what they committed to.

Your avoidance of my questions is saying a lot more than your posts mate
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're trying to place a certainty on an unknown.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not certainty but a very strong likelihood. If every eu member was a part of it; then it stands to reason that the UK also would have been.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At that point though, it is your opinion and not a fact. We don't know if we'd have been involved, all we know is that we didn't need to be and could have still done what we have done.
Therefore it cannot factually be listed as a Brexit benefit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is my opinion that the sun will rise tomorrow.
It might not do but I’m happy with that statement.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good for you. Its not comparable to this though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

'The sun will rise tomorrow' is a poor analogy. On one hand, we're talking about an eventuality that would proceed from a cataclysmic event defying observable reality and/or the known laws of physics. On the other hand, a pragmatic decision on the part of a UK government that would be legally permissible for an EU member and would likely be politically expedient in a country where Remain had won but a large and discontented Leave constituency created pressure to demonstrate independence; it would also be very much precedented in the tradition of the UK pursuing opt-outs and a rather independent path within the EU.
It's certainly a defensible opinion that the UK would have opted in the the EU vaccine procurement scheme, but I think SatNav is displaying rather too little intellectual caution in listing this as a solid Brexit benefit (especially given the subsequent EU catch-up and significantly lower Covid mortality rates across the EU) ...and perhaps a little too much intellectual caution around the likelihood of the sun rising tomorrow.

I’ll delve into this piece of arrogance when I stop driving

It's sitting Infront of me as I write this message, not a tint of blue on it anywhere.
I've had many confirmations of its black colour too.

It's actually just a very, very, very, very, very ,very dark blue if you look close enough.

To my eyes it's definitely black, honestly don't see any blue on it in any type of light

I think the world would benefit from a pre intelligence test before you are eligible to vote.
That way we would never see Republicans in power again, Brexit would never have happened and all round common sense would prevail. It is a shame the less intelligent get to have a say.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it was the ideology of Hitler's Germany that suggested that an argument that appealed to the stupid masses was far more powerful than one that appealed to academics and people of intelligence.
It's still true today. Hence Brexit and the prevalence of three word slogans that people understand: Take Back Control, Get Brexit Done, Hands Face Space etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Zero doubt trumps campaign targeted the stupid
----------------------------------------------------------------------
George W Bush's campaigns consciously targeted what they called 'low information voters'.

To characterise it as a Brexit benefit is simply untrue.

https://www.bbc.com/news/55163730
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/pfizer-biontech-covid-19-vaccine-mhra-statement
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Stop posting the same information- we know that we had the option to do our own vaccine procurement.
But you are avoiding the question because you know what the answer is.
And let’s not forget about NI, shall we?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You (falsely) cited the vaccine roll out as a "Brexit benefit" when it had nothing to do with it.
You also suggested the UK "would we have been part of that contract" when there was no requirement for MS to sign up to the scheme.
The Brexiteers were so desperate to highlight any benefits of Brexit, they jumped upon the EU procurement mess up with AZ.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sigh
How many of the eu member states were part of that AZ contract? How many? All of them? And you think it’s wrong to say that we also would have been? Really? Come on mate…
It’s not just the contractual mess up - we paid more, paid sooner and ordered sooner if memory serves. Bulk ordering to save money works great when there’s a bountiful supply. Don’t think I would have taken that risk
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There was no contractual mess up. AZ simply underdelivered to what they committed to.

Your avoidance of my questions is saying a lot more than your posts mate
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're trying to place a certainty on an unknown.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not certainty but a very strong likelihood. If every eu member was a part of it; then it stands to reason that the UK also would have been.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At that point though, it is your opinion and not a fact. We don't know if we'd have been involved, all we know is that we didn't need to be and could have still done what we have done.
Therefore it cannot factually be listed as a Brexit benefit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is my opinion that the sun will rise tomorrow.
It might not do but I’m happy with that statement.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good for you. Its not comparable to this though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fack me he is daft
Sun rising is a fact, UK signing up to the EU program is speculating.
