Great first step for us if he does come in, but he needs to be backed now with ins and outs, no more square pegs for round holes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No reason to think he wont be.
Henderson, Jones, Bailly, Matic, Pogba, Mata, Lingard, Martial, Cavani, Ronaldo could all go, meaning we should be looking at bringing 4 in.
A CB, DM, CM and CF and ETH would have a great spine of his own to build on.

It has been statistically demonstrated that DDG is right at the worst end of the spectrum for goalkeepers when it comes to distribution. He's also far from elite in just about every metric apart from shot stopping (though let's not forget he has had a number of wobbles in that department over the years). His deficiencies (distribution and reluctance to come out of the box) are one of the factors contributing to the fact that our defence spends too much time under pressure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
On this hill I will die. His lack of proactive goalkeeping is a big part of the problem.

If United fans want better than mediocrity (and I’d suggest that given the incredible advantage that SAF, Gill and the club had built, the last ten years represents far worse than mediocrity), the head has to go.

I don't think this ends well. The players have to buy into the manager and the system and so far they haven't done that with a succession of managers.
----------------------------
Oh. Maybe we should just give up?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its the only sensible thing to do . It has not worked out with previous managers so there is no point in trying to win with a new one. We need to replicate the Spurs model.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The issue i see is that United probably need a massive clear out....so tough and unpopular decisions to be made and a bit of a root and branch rebuild.
A lot of Utd fans moan more about how the club is run than the actual manager or players and this is probably correct. With this in mind you want a strong experienced manager who the BoD will listen to. If he says for example "Ronaldo needs to go" then the Board need to action that, not tell him no because he sells some shirts or whatever. Jose's demise largely came about over a break down in trust over Pogba. SO even back then a strong manager saying he wants player A B and C and wants rid of player D & E wasnt listened to, the BoD knew best and you've won nothing since and will lose Pogba for zip.
I feel like Spurs and Utd have been in similar positions with a group that has continued to underperform and an ownership that have been heavily criticised and a major contributing factor to the decline. It takes a strong manager to turn that around and this appears to be happening at SPurs under Conte. Really feels we are moving in the right direction. The summer will be telling but our Board will know they have to give the manager what he wants (within reason) and the DoF has helped in this.
United still seem like the Board tell the manager what he is getting. Ten Hag interviewed at Spurs, and was rejected, reportedly partially because he didnt have any recommendations for who should make up his coaching team. To me, and Spurs, this seems liek weak leadership.
The job at United is massive and IMO needs a massive manager and a Board that will listen to him. Ten Hag seems far from that and might find himself out of his depth. Dealing with the stars, the Board, the egos, the fans impatient for success, the media spot will be huge. Its not just about signing a guy who plays pretty football in the Dutch pub league

I disagree.
Our new Chief Exec will be well aware of past mistakes and the fans feelings over the last 5 years or so. He will therefore be well aware of the importance of this appointment and the support the manager receives going forward.
It's easy to win the ball back from Man Utd. Put pressure on the goalkeeper and he will hoof it long to the opposition CB to win the header. TH will replace the goalkeeper, Maguire and AWB to fix the build up phase. You need a midffiel player who can connect the first phase of build up with the attacking phase.
Let's hope Mazraoui goes to Barca.
Saw this on Sky Sports last night. Fantastic news.
He needs time and support.
Hopefully the clear out begins immediately.

TH doesn't care about the coaching team. He is the one who does the coaching. There seems to be an outdated thinking in England whereby a manager needs assistants for the coaching. Pep and Klopp are still involved in drilling their team. Your club Spurs is used to the old fashioned lazy English manager like Redknap who goes to the betting office or shopping while his assistants do the work on the training ground.

I don't think this ends well. The players have to buy into the manager and the system and so far they haven't done that with a succession of managers.

Oh. Maybe we should just give up?

Its the only sensible thing to do . It has not worked out with previous managers so there is no point in trying to win with a new one. We need to replicate the Spurs model.

The issue i see is that United probably need a massive clear out....so tough and unpopular decisions to be made and a bit of a root and branch rebuild.
