Exactly why you need a strong and experienced manager with a good team around him..
----------------------
Your opinion on ETH seems to be based on an awful lot of conjecture, based solely on some report that Spurs didn't hire him because of something about coaching staff (this is the same Spurs hierarchy that then thought it a good a idea to hire Nuno - take what you will from that)

It doesn't sound like you really know much about him. Neither do I really, but I think it's pretty arrogant to dismiss him as some guy who plays pretty football in the Dutch pub league. If you are interested, there is plenty out there to be read on the challenges he faced when coming into Ajax as an outsider which don't really point to him being some yes-man.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Conjecture?

I have seen his record and seen how he plays and actually saw Ajax in the flesh in the UCL QF....that probably qualifies me more than you to comment on him, tbf, although I do not profess to being a Ten Hag expert.

Spurs declined to offer him the job after interview. That's a fact. ANd while Nuno was an odd choice, his PL expereince would have counted for something but most believe he was always a stop-gap until probably Poch became available or Conte had a change of heart.

It is funny that a lot of Utd fans dismiss Poch as an option because he has deemed to have failed at PSG and Spurs, and yet favour ETH on the strength of what? That he's won stuff in a one-team league? Poch has proven way more than ETH, has had experience at big clubs, with some of the biggest players in the world, big egos, pushy Boards, demanding fans. ETH has had none of this and whether you want to call it conjecture or not, i'd say his CV is far inferior to Poch and fans should be asking the question, what experience does ETH have to prepare him for such a massive job. And its not just massive because Utd are so big, but also because a lot of things are wrong at Utd. Part of that may be the coaching set up. But ETH will accept whoever is given to him it would seem. He's basically getting a massive promotion, like going from the Championship level to one of the giants of the game, on his own, not taking his team of trusted generals with him. Seems odd.

I always see this sort of manager as going to a West Ham, or Newcastle or may be Spurs to develop their career and experience, rather than an express elevator to United

There’s a ton of evidence that Ed meddled in transfer dealings under each and every manager since Fergie.

LVG and Mourinho have talked about it, players have talked about it, and there have been numerous leaks.

How much Joel had to do with any of that I have no idea, at all. But competent ownership would have seen Ed completely cut out of any transfer or contract business other than putting pen to paper when being presented with documents on signing day.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He was involved in doing the deals.

We are talking about identifying target, which 3l3d didnt do.

Yes, conjecture. You having seen Ajax play a few times does not qualify you to give any sort of opinion on his leadership style, does it? I'm not sure what Tottenham not offering him a job has to do with anything really. It is a different club, with different goals and a director of football who is known to favour a more conservative style of football - that in itself doesn't seem like it would have been a great fit.

I rate Poch. I dont really know anything about Ten Hag so won't give an opinion - but clearly something about him has impressed us. I don't really know why you are using the fact that Spurs didn't appoint him following an interview as some sort of evidence for your point, but dismissing the fact that he impressed United enough for them to have chosen him following that same interview process.

Its risk. A pretty huge one. But I don't mind us taking risks as long as they are calculated and considered. I just find it strange you have based your entire argument on some supposed 'strong personality' thing which you have just completely made up.

Where has it come from that Glazer and Ed used to decide transfer targets ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think at least partly from the signing of VDB. I mean, he didn't seem to be an Ole signing, as he never played him. So who made the decision. Before that I would have found it hard to believe that the manager wasn't the one having the final say, but after we signed him, I wasn't so sure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ole signed DVB. No reason to think otherwise. Some just dont work out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That could be the case. It just seems odd that he didn't really give him much of a chance.

He bottled it when he realised he couldn't fit 4 into 3, then strung Donnny along.

Hmmm, he wasn't great, but I still don't think he really had a proper chance.

Because Ole didn’t like rotating and when he did Donny was shiiiiiit. That doesn’t mean Ole didn’t want to sign him, it was just a shiiiiiit signing.

I can well believe that. As Ed was more interested in giving players new contracts to increase balance sheet value.

Apparently Jose wanted Martial sold out of the club. He told Ed he had no need for him, but Ed refused to sell him and told him he had to work with him.

I can already see a few people saying ‘TH’ or ‘ETH’ and think those will prevail. I’ve tended to avoid things like ‘LVG’ and even ‘Ole’ and just gone with the surname, but I think I’ll refer to him as ‘Erik’ if he does come.

Moron Ed shouldn't have given him the new contract if he wasn't going to back him

If he’s Five Hag when he should be Ten Hag, you really ought to cancel him down to One Half. Basic maths that.
