Live in a cave, wash in streams, forage for food and basically cut themselves off entirely from everyday society, just so they can’t be called hypocrites?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd actually love to do that... Actually being able to do it in a legal way is next to impossible. As you say, we are trapped in a system that does not allow us to stay too far away from the corporate machine to that point where it would be illegal to just live off the land unless you already own said land (and even then, it's very difficult and still requires things like council tax, which gets spent on oil based items).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The one thing I would say is that if any protesters aren’t really making any changes in their own lives - cars, flying, meat etc - then they leave themselves open to some criticism. But to expect ‘a 100% oil-free life’ is madness.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly.
Just Stop Oil aren't advocating a completely oil-free life. I'm not aware of any single campaign group or notable campaigner that is. Not one.
Wouldn't it be great if people listened to what these campaigners are actually saying, rather than relying on mischaracterisations made by commentators in the Mail and Express.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They're saying 'me me me me', you're ruining 'my future', 'how dare you!' while living in a first world country.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How dare they choose to be born here ffs

You cannot convince me that these protestors live a 100% oil free life. There is just no way. So that makes them facking hypocrites.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It really doesn’t - I think this is a preposterous argument personally. Part of the point is that fossil fuel consumption underpins virtually everything - you can’t blame people for not being able to fully escape the system they’re protesting against. And perhaps their ideal world wouldn’t have ‘no fossil fuel’, just ‘much less fossil fuel’. Most of all though, what are you expecting them to do? Live in a cave, wash in streams, forage for food and basically cut themselves off entirely from everyday society, just so they can’t be called hypocrites?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, the question is what do they expect the world to do without oil? Its simply not possible. And maybe, if you want to better the world, start with yourself.

Not sure what they are moaning about, because in 2030 no fossil fuel car is allowed to be produced. Thats in 7 years. Isnt that what they want?

We have a bigger problem of acceleration. We are the bigger problem.

How do you stop the bigger problem?
1. Live and let live while urgently trying to find solutions for innovation.
2. Reverse evolution
3. Just be done with it and have a nuclear war.
We are all on an escalator going down that can't be stopped. What we need and future generations need is new ideas to slow it down and continue moving forwards.
These protesters want us to turn around and try to walk up the escalator that's going down to buy time. Totally pointless and what future generations will not thank us for.
I support the right to protest, unless it inconveniences me.

What a strange point.
That means I could never support any form of protest in case the person then went on to commit an act of terror.
I was gonna ask whether you would prefer we go back to the days before women had rights, slave were legal etc... But I remembered your posts on similar topics, so won't waste my time.
It just occurred to me that I've seen substantially more rage on this forum about a traffic jam on the M25 than the firebombing of a refugee centre in Manston. Not all acts of political criminality are equal.

How do people feel about train drivers and Network Rail staff striking every week at the moment? That is the exact same thing for public transport users as is happening on the roads when these people protest.
The issue is that you have been conditioned to think that you have a right to drive anywhere and everywhere, whenever you want.
Do you think people should be out there dragging train staff on to the trains and make them get the trains going? You can't just interrupt a whole public transport system just to highlight an issue you want to protest against.

That the UK government makes a statement that it will immediately halt all future licensing and consents for the exploration, development and production of fossil fuels in the UK.
WHY?
It’s the very first step to ensuring our survival. We already have more oil and gas than we can afford to burn. LET’S GET ON WITH ENDING OUR RELIANCE ON FOSSIL FUELS COMPLETELY: by powering ahead with renewables and cutting energy demand; by insulating Britain and rethinking how we travel; and by ensuring that no-one is left behind and everyone’s voice is heard.

They are advocating to end our reliance on oil and fossil fuels completely.
Not sure what they are moaning about, because in 2030 no fossil fuel car is allowed to be produced. Thats in 7 years. Isnt that what they want?

We have a bigger problem of acceleration. We are the bigger problem.
How do you stop the problem? You can't!

Maybe they'd be taken seriously if they didn't keep making it about themselves, plus showed that they can act like civilised people.

Have you watched any of the interviews with them?

Do I really want to subject myself to anymore of these clueless attention seeking extremists?

Fair enough, but in that case you can’t really make the first of the above comments, can you?

I can as I've seen enough from these types to know what they're all about—they're spoilt and entitled.
People with humility don't block roads like bandits, or go into stores and poor milk on the floor, or throw faeces on things. It's degenerate behaviour.
