Put another way, I expect that automation is going to (further) drive productivity and widen profit margins massively in the 21st century, whilst doing less than nothing for working people or to help address the looming pensions crisis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree. Over the last 50 years we've seen various productivity-increasing technologies come on line, creating more wealth with less work, with the potential to provide greater prosperity and more leisure time for everyone. What has invariably happened is the prosperity has accrued to the owners of capital and more and more people are competing for poorly paid, 'unskilled' jobs. The next wave of automation will be perhaps more disruptive than the ones we have already seen in manufacturing, and it looks as though it will unfold on a societal backdrop in which democracy is much less robust and plutocrats exercise more influence.

Just a hunch, but I'd guess he's referring to the ones who said they should be run over or taken out by snipers?

My sharp shooter comment was tongue in cheek It was pretty obvious

It was more of a dig at the police not being organised enough to prevent these demo's from happening when they know where and when they are meant to be happening..

Exactly this.

Service industries (tourism, hospitality, IT, marketing and advertising, healthcare) are starting to see it, plus transport and distribution. Add to that the perpetual shift to online retail and service provision.

Should mean that we’ll all work fewer hours, doing more interesting jobs, in safer and more comfortable conditions.

Will actually mean depressed wages, growing unemployment and large swathes of the populations of developed countries sliding back into poverty.

There were several posts about running down these people with a car that didn't seem particularly tongue in cheek. They didn't use loads of emojis, so hard to tell.

I genuinely don't know. The political divide has sent people mental.

When one of these protestors inevitably dies, there will be some people who get a kick out of it, there is no doubt about that.

I think it is much more inevitable that these protesting cretins delay more ambulances or other emergency services which causes a death rather than someone killing the protestors…..

That is obviously and undeniable to anyone that is reasonable and not got their head up their arris

You could say that about anything. A football match for example. For people who live around a stadium whilst a match is being played, it is going to be much more difficult for an ambulance to get through all of that traffic and people walking about just to go to watch some childish game. When will people grow up and realise that a stupid game is not worth people dying because ambulances can't get through? The amount of people I have seen with blue hair at football matches. Need to grow up and live in the real world.

Too much traffic is the leading cause of delays to ambulances and will have cost countless lives over the years. If you actually cared about delays to ambulances then you'd be advocating a reduction in traffic.

You could even go out and protest about it.

I can point you towards some good research but it's just common sense really. What other ways do you think we can reduce delays to ambulances? You seem to care about it as much as me so we can have some good chats sometime. Maybe set up a weekly Teams meeting?

Well. A quick Google search suggests that 25-34 is the age group with the most vegans.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Every age band has their characteristics. The young have always been the most impressionable, fashionable and flexible and always will be. Also, as they age, these characteristics will change as every generation in the past has and they will end up largely conservative, curmudgeonly and resistant to change.

I see no reason for that generalisation to change even if the hot topics of the day might.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I drew no real conclusion from it and it wasn’t meant to prove anyone wrong or right. As I said above, I just googled it while it was being discussed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, it wasn't meant as a direct retort, sorry. Just an observation that covers much of this debate. The young become old and realise how little they knew or understood when they were young.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But even in old(er) age, there's always some remnant of their young beliefs that doesn't get eroded, and that's how society changes perhaps.
