Irregardless of my opinion, the value he brings as a player is going to be vastly overshadowed by the drama he is going to bring if he plays.
18 months on, what is the point him staying?
He'll score some goals i imagine, maybe in time win us some games. But that will be in the shadow of stadium protests, people running on to the pitch maybe to give him a slap, pundits chatting rubbish for months on end, fans accusing Luke Shaw or Onana or whoever of being wife beaters because they passed the ball to Greenwood
The 606 United page every other article will be people arguing over Greenwood and womens rights for the next 5 years. Everyone saying the same thing over and over again
Already arguably the most tribal sport in Britain, maybe the world, Internet forums and comment sections on social media going into meltdown with the 'banter' from rival fans, when really rival fans are just personally abusing United supporters for suppporting a team who employs this man
Maybe Anonymous the morality internet warriors will poke their heads up again and hack Uniteds FB page in solidarity with womens rights.
Maybe an outraged fan will accidentally cause a full fire in the United store after lighting a Greenwood shirt on fire.
Examples above being extremes obviously, but in an age where outrage is amplified thanks to the world wide web, it doesn't seem too farfetched to think one of these things happening.
Yes the world won't fall apart and neither will United but I can just picture all sorts of outrage and distractions that just isn't worth the hassle, especially when Greenwood will likely live a comfortable life for the rest of his life whatever the outcome is.

It's not so much the woman was prepared to accept a bung, that her family pointed out she was happy before. And if she believed he was remorseful, then she could have a far better life staying with him the otherwise,

A brilliant take by Simon Jordan on this issue. All this ' I feel he should not play for united again' utter nonsense. The player has not been found guilty of anything. It is ridiculous to state the club just shrugged their shoulders on this matter- the club by all accounts have taken their time to look at this thoroughly (if anything way too long) and they still have not come to a decision. It is therefore abundantly clear whatever decision they come to was carried out after they did their due diligence.
If the club decide to give Mason Greenwood a second chance, shut up and move on.

Here's the email I sent to feedback@manutd.co.uk yesterday, and the template response I got in reply:
Hi,
As a lifelong Manchester United supporter, I was alarmed and appalled to read the Athletic's report that the club was on the verge of announcing the reinstatement of Mason Greenwood into the team.
Regardless of sporting and commercial considerations, the club has a duty to consider the impact of its decision as to whether or not it takes a stance on the horrific audio recording that has widely been shared. The wider discourse (especially on social media) around this story has been flooded with misogyny, and also prevalent notions about domestic abuse such as the idea that if the alleged victim is still with the alleged abuser, he can't have done anything very wrong. Manchester United is a huge cultural force, and with this reach comes a weight of responsibility to be seen to stand unambiguously against tolerance of abusive and coercive relationships. To bring back Mason Greenwood would have a disastrous effect on perceived norms. It will legitimise abuse. It will amplify myths that encourage us not to take victims seriously. And in empowering the worst voices taking part in this discourse, it will have real-world consequences on this wellbeing and safety of women trapped in abusive relationships.
It will be the single most shameful chapter in the club's history. You will lose fans, and in particular the trust of women, who should feel safe, respected and welcome in our football community.
Regards,
------------------------------------------------
Dear ------,
Thank you for taking the time to email Manchester United. We note and understand your strength of feeling on this matter.
This has been a difficult case for everyone associated with the Club, and we recognise the strong opinions it has provoked.
Since charges were dropped against Mason Greenwood in February, we have conducted our own investigation into the allegations made against him, and we want to assure you that the welfare and perspective of the alleged victim has been central to the club’s inquiries.
As a club, we are extremely mindful of the views of our supporters, but we also believe that our decision in this case should be based primarily on the findings of our investigation.
As communicated yesterday, despite media reports, we have not yet reached a final decision. When we do, we will communicate and explain it through club channels.
We assure you that we are listening to carefully to your views and ask for patience as we work through the final stages of this considered process.
Kind regards,
Manchester United Football Club
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Great email, RR … but to me that club response reads very much like he’s coming back into the fold, they’re just evaluating when and how. Guess all will be revealed pretty soon.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope so. Sounds like you and others just want to call people out for not matching your higher morality. It is the internet afterall. Its a big deal for supporters like me to pack it in over this one issue. Especially onecwhich nobody knows the real truths. Yet. Thats how I feel.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, that’s not what I meant at all. I was interested in how high people place utd in their life, as I’ve seen others who are obviously massive fans (some maybe not so much) state they will walk away over this, which is admirable in conviction. It’s the balance between that vs supporting a team, and where people sit with that. I saw an 82 post yesterday where he stated he’d lost a bit of interest over time with the way the game was going.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If I could get to the truth on this I could make a decision on what I think more comfortably. But I cant . Yet. Will find out one day. At 5he moment both sides are based on perception of the available information that is in the publis domain. I dont want to discuss the actual case. Its how United and fans move on from this that concerns me. But atm not supporting united anymore is nonsence. A decision that you have found easier than me to make
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The CPS decision was based on everything.

I was an estate agent for over forty years in England, I do hope I had better morals than Scholar, in fact I know I did.

Scholay sorry.

Certainly not ‘scholar’ that much is evident

You know what, I'm pretty satisfied now that Scholay has told me exactly how I should be feeling about this. Thanks Scholay.

You are welcome. Whilst the alleged victim is living in a mansion with Greenwood and enjoying their riches to this day, spend your day worrying about this. All the best.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, absolutely. We should always forget about cases of domestic abuse when the victim lives in a mansion.
Anymore pearls of wisdom from you?

Great email, RR … but to me that club response reads very much like he’s coming back into the fold, they’re just evaluating when and how. Guess all will be revealed pretty soon.

Rb&w not having a go, just interested in what you are trying to say

Rdd you are as clueless as anybody on this
