It’s a huge cost of living crisis, in the most expensive part of the country but yet “just buy a new car”. Amazing advice.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its a reality of life...you need to buy a new car occasionally
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And now is the perfect time what with sky rocketing fuel bills, food bills and mortgages. Bravo.
Honestly the stupidity of some.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
oh...you're not pleased...I can tell
Basic arithmatic
You need a car...you buy a legal one for a cost
You keep your old one - you pay £60 a week on ULEV
You can do without a car...you sell it & use the money on public transport
This country is a 3rd worldshithole
Congrats to the Mayor

More developed and modern cities have better public transport and active travel infrastructure. Less developed cities rely on cars. Unless you think that every person travelling around in a huge individual metal box when there is limited space is an efficient way to move people?
The mayor does not give a fack about emissions or sick children. This is just a smokescreen. He only cares about hitting law abiding citizens in the pocket when they are already struggling

Regarding my above reply, would you rather be a modern city or a 3rd world one where people are stuck in traffic? Now that you have improved information, which would you rather? You seemed keen before that our country didn't become a 3rd world one.

Who the hell is still driving a car from before 2006 anyway? And 12 quid?
So much crying in the right wing press, DM going bezerk over this, i really cannot understand why.
Next step is getting everyone commuting within London on Bicycles busses and trains, plenty of them about
There are some 200 cities in Europe operating similar schemes. The real problem in this country is the chronic under funding in public transport driven by a greed motivated Government that prioritises tax cuts for the rich at the expense of public spending
I've been waiting for a bypass in the next village for 30+ years - it takes me nearly 20 min to get to my bowls club & i'm furious about it
don't hear me bleating on about it on here though do you...
Honestly it's like nobody else has serious problems to deal with to some people on here...
It's a nothing event being blown up into a major issue as a culture war distraction and the foamers are chomping.

And politically it is difficult to get more sustainable transport schemes through because of the ill-informed majority as demonstrated on here, that still think personal car transport is the most modern and efficient way of travelling.
Change in policy in recent years is helping get schemes through despite opposition of the car lobby though.
Road schemes are getting ditched all over though despite designs being developed to a high level. Dualling schemes, bypasses etc. mostly being ditched unless there is massive political pressure on a certain scheme.
Far fewer younger people driving, particularly in cities. Progress is being made. Despite the anti-progress lobby.
Half of this car hating lot on here will be the same morons who cycle everywhere on roads they pay nothing towards, happy for the motorist to do that so they can deliver their takeaways whilst cutting up motorists and generally acting like twaaaats
You think roads are paid for solely by car driving taxes and its other folk that are morons.

How much do cyclists pay again?
Generally I’m in favour of it in London as it smoggy and a lot better now than it use to be, albeit outside London areas haven’t really had that problem (unless you go to east London) so don’t think it’ll make a huge difference but again still on the side of potentially favouring it if it can help kids breathe better etc
However
The main issues I have with it is 1) it’s yet another tax on top of us already paying one of the highest taxes In the world and we already pay National insurance on top of tax and VAT too so it’s just yet another tax and 2) it’s all well and good as it is but how long until they change the goal posts and say XXXX cars are no longer compliant, and how regularly are they going to do this? Every 2 years until the only thing on the road is electric cars? Speed limits already gradually changing everywhere
So I disagree on the notion it’s a conspiracy but it’s definitely going to end up every 2-3 years getting more strict until the only thing you can drive is an EV, and most people won’t be able to afford an EV
Also I do love seeing these chopped down ULEZ camera photos

Do you know how roads are paid for? Everyone pays for them. BUT, it is the motor vehicles that damage them and cause cost for repair. So technically those who don't damage the roads are paying more due to YOU damaging the roads. So if I do a quick calculation, you personally owe me £9,700 from the past 20 years or so. I assume you do cheques as you don't want any of this 3rd world online banking stuff so cheque is fine.

Most online or online newspaper polls seem to be 80%-90% yes when asked if you support the ULEZ Vandals
