Yes, it's a dig at France for "selecting" (they were selected on their merits - I thought many of you reactionaries present yourselves as colorblind people who hate evocation of immutable ethnic characteristics) so many French players of African descent. The reason it's "racist" is the underlying assumption that someone who doesn't look ethnically French (meaning caucasian of Frankish/Gallic background) is not REALLY French or a lower caste French person, regardless of whether he was born and raised in France or not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its your assumption.
I don't think thats what they meant.

But I already agreed with your assumption of what they meant. Your own assumption of what they meant is motivated by the notion that French men of African descent are not REAL French men.

The way he framed it before was even funnier - saying that the Argies were "mocking France for giving up on French players". I gave up trying to find out what he means by "French players". They don't refer to colour.
They don't say these players aren't French.
They don't suggest the 'African' players were picked for just their ' physical characteristics'
This has all come from the softer element of supporters.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can insult any race of people without mentioning "color", you dunce. It only takes the imagination of a kindergartener.
Nobody claimed they said they weren't French. What everyone has claimed is they were basically fake French men.
Nobody has claimed that they said the players were picked for their physical characteristics, but that they were referring to stereotypical characteristics of African athletes in ridiculing the un-Frenchness of those players.

Where?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Here:
"A lot of the French players have African parents, or background. The Argies, given their nationalistic pride, are mocking the French for selecting so many players.of African heritage in pursuit of success.
I personal think it is a crude generalisation, rather than outright racism.
Many of those players will have friends and teammates who are from such a background."
I don't know whether this distinction you're making when you use the terms "African parents" or "African heritage" considers those people African on the basis of their place of birth or on the perceived 'race' or skin colour.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its based on their heritage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then, according to the most commonly accepted anthropological theories, we're all African. Unless you can give me a better definition of when we cease to have African heritage?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So if they are singing about all French players irrespective of colour,.how is it racist?,
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They're obviously not singing about all French players when they make specific reference to African countries of origin.
A few more questions for you:
Why do you think Enzo's apologised so profusely?
Why do you think it's been labelled racist by so many people?
Why do you think the club itself has opened an investigation into the incident?
Why do you think his own teammate's criticised it as blatantly racist?
Finally, why are you here defending a point of view contrary to such an overwhelming majority of people who've addressed the topic?
Hold on a sec. That last question actually answers itself and renders all the previous ones moot.

Depends how you chose to interpret the song Petal.

They don't refer to colour.
They don't say these players aren't French.
They don't suggest the 'African' players were picked for just their ' physical characteristics'
This has all come from the softer element of supporters.

A lot of the French players have African parents, or background. The Argies, given their nationalistic pride, are mocking the French for selecting so many players.of African heritage in pursuit of success
———
RDD will say anything to defend racism.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The way he framed it before was even funnier - saying that the Argies were "mocking France for giving up on French players". I gave up trying to find out what he means by "French players". I mean, I KNOW what he means by "French player" (a white French player), but he was too cowardly to spell that out and kept wasting my time with nonsense I didn't ask.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah that was an all time RDD quote to defend racism. Which takes some doing given his history.

We all have different opinions Champ x
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I know. You have racist opinions and most on here don’t.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I dont, but if i did, id say. Most have prejudices.

The French team is full of players with an African background, ti suggest otherwise is just silly.
I personally think the song is a dig at France for selecting so many players French African players, as opposed to what the Argentinians might consider French players (mimes, stripey tops, strings of onions, cigarette)
Sort of like, you have scoured the Earth for the best, and we still beat you (in the World Cup)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, it's a dig at France for "selecting" (they were selected on their merits - I thought many of you reactionaries present yourselves as colorblind people who hate evocation of immutable ethnic characteristics) so many French players of African descent. The reason it's "racist" is the underlying assumption that someone who doesn't look ethnically French (meaning caucasian of Frankish/Gallic background) is not REALLY French or a lower caste French person, regardless of whether he was born and raised in France or not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why doesn't he just come out and say that?
I guess this is why KKK hid their faces with white hoods. Racism is embarrassing.

Racism is probably the worst label to give someone nowadays, closely followed by nonce, Tory or Flat Earther.
The player and club will do what the world expects them to do. Apologise, and be seen to learn/ punish him.
