On the trains thing, I thought the UK's rail services had been privatised, so how is it still the government that sets train drivers' wages?
Sort of Centrist IOAG, by the way mate, any idea of what the rail drivers earn in España ?I'm pretty sure that it's a lot less than in GB !

Yet the Labour loving luvies will make any excuse for striking drivers because 40 plus percent of their MP’s had campaign contributions from the unions.

Strongly agree with Red here.
I don't normally get involved with political debates on here but I will make an exception in this case.
I was a former Trade Union member for a total of 15 years with Sogat '82 under Brenda Dean. I was a deputy FOC for 10 years (not that Starmer will even know what an FOC is!!) Unlike most people, I have even worked in a closed shop and seen first hand, sights that frankly would make most people's hair curl and have consistently voted Labour from James Callaghan onwards to the present day (with the exception of Corbyn in 2019) and this "Labour" Government in the space of only a few months, have managed to completely alienate me towards them to such a degree that I will never, ever vote for them again. There is nothing that I can learn about being a proud Trade Unionist and Working Class from Starmer.
Starmer (and Reeves for that matter) are a complete disgrace and now with talk of removing the free travel pass and means testing the state pension, which as someone who has 50 complete years of paying for it means that they are thinking of trying to take that entitlement away from me, because I have some savings (which I only have because I have now taken 25% of my own private pension) which I started when I was 30.
I remain staunchly in possession of a working class mentality and still despise the Tory party and everything they stand for but because of the vindictive antics of this lot since they came to power I will happily vote Tory moving forwards (without feeling dirty about it) to keep them out of power hopefully for the rest of my days.
If they continue in their current course of action then I predict 2 things. One is that they won't even last a full term and their position will have become untenable by about 3-4 years and two, they won't even come second in the next election and will rightly be irrelevant in the years to come, having chosen to betray and erode their base support permanently like they have. They certainly won't get the second term that they crave.

To be fair, much of the countries wealth is in the hands of the older generation and it was largely down to being born at the right time rather than working any harder or longer than people working nowadays who'll struggle to ever get out of the abyss that is the UK rental market.
I don't believe in the sort of economics the Labour party are playing (as if a nations budget mirrors a person's) but if you are that way inclined the raising funds/saving funds from wealthy pensioners seems a better option than kicking people already at a massive disadvantage.

-------------------------------------------------
The mistake that they are making is that not all pensioners are wealthy. I am retiring in January so I am not quite there, but for example over a 27 year period I owned 2 cars in total. I haven't been able to afford to run a car since I scrapped the second one in 2006. The travel pass that they are thinking about taking away from people like me has been valuable.
Maybe they would have more money if they tried to do something about the amount of people that I personally witness every day illegally bunking on the buses and pushing through the barriers at the train stations. It is a large scale problem that Khan is well aware of, but does nothing about. The staff at my local station have confided to me, that they have even been instructed to count the amount of fare-bunkers every day there but not personally intervene for safety reasons (which I understand) he told me that it is over 300 every day.

So Starmer said ‘Pensioners have nothing to fear from me’, ‘Pensioners need protecting’ and then when the Tories muted that they may look at stopping the winter fuel allowance, Starmer got stuck into Sunak.
What’s the first thing Labour go and do! Then sanction substantial pay rises for the Junior Drs and train drivers, they even gave drivers who’ve left the job a handout!

So you're angry that Starmer has done something the Tories you voted for would've done of they'd been elected. You obviously didn't care about pensioners when casting your vote, just your own pension. Your outrage looks a lot like hypocrisy.
Saying Starmer has taken from pensioners to give to train drivers and doctors is such base level tabloid logic.

Unlike most people, I have even worked in a closed shop and seen first hand, sights that frankly would make most people's hair curl and have consistently voted Labour from James Callaghan onwards to the present day (with the exception of Corbyn in 2019) and this "Labour" Government in the space of only a few months, have managed to completely alienate me towards them to such a degree that I will never, ever vote for them again.

He's started putting pen to paper on his new autobiography....
"I, Keir"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s a flat pack bully
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He most definitely is! Suspended 7 Labour MP’s for voting against the cap on child benefit, 53 Labour MP’s abstained from the vote on the winter fuel payment because of the fear they could be suspended, god knows how many of his MP’s voted for it but actually don’t agree with it.
He won’t rule out stopping the single persons council tax discount.
The man is a cvnt! He refused to answer the question of what he classes as working class, because he doesn’t know!
Even Unite one of his biggest donors aint happy with him.

Strongly agree with Red here.

Either way train driver salaries are decent for what is officially an unskilled job.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet the Labour loving luvies will make any excuse for striking drivers because 40 plus percent of their MP’s had campaign contributions from the unions.
Like I said, no different to the tories.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're an idiot if you're comparing paye workers sub funded unions to racist software developers or offshore oligarchs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You must have low self esteem or be mentally weak to feel the need to insult folk with different views to yours.
Quite sad really, I feel sorry for you.

Thought you had more about you tbh.

In conclusion Hector, I must say that Sir Keir does seem to have reverted to his original colours, time will tell of course but If I was a labour voter, I would be in a confused state at this moment in time !

14 years of misrule isn't going to be corrected overnight and it's not going to be corrected without mistakes but ffs they've been in post for less than 3 months, the panty wetting is premature...imo.

Politician in tells lies shocker!
It's like nobody has learnt anything over the last always.
The country being in a mess is about the only thing most people agree on. Like it or not, Labour are in power for 5 years and anything can happen, Starmer might live up to being the boring technocrat that in 5 years time has us back on our feet or he might be toast in 6 months.
For all our sakes, I'm glad to see the back of the tory death spiral and, for all our sakes, I wish Labour success
Lesson from the pay talks...join a union.
