I find this intriguing. Spurs can't or wouldn't want to pay his wages? I wasn't aware of Spurs being in financial difficulties.

Is it simply the wage structure, because wage structures are all reviewed sooner or later, and if Spurs want to make a more permanent break into the top 4, they'll need to be able to attract talent. Relying on bargain buys can work for a while, but I think that in today's football, that strategy won't work in the long run if you're looking to challenge for the bigger titles regularly.
