The critera which were taken into account in compiling the list (including the order of it), were :
1. personal achievements (including world records where applicable)
2. contribution to team achievements (where applicable)
3. talent
4. 'importance'/popularity of sport
5. comparison with other GB guys in that sport
6. Public acclaim
7. acts of heroism
8. Chelsea supporter or not
7. acts of heroism
Pray do tell, what counts as an act of heroism?
I don't remember Daley Thompson ever pulling people out of burning buildings.
He rescued a kitty cat from a tree
off the top of my head, people who scored highly on acts of heroism, were :
-rugby players on the 97 lions tour to south africa
-boxers who had faced fearsome opponents
-batsmen who had scored runs against the west indies pace attack
throwing yourself down on a bob run on a tea tray face down at 80mph and still managing to win an olympic gold must mean amy williams features pretty high on the list jpb
do you mean underdog status?
no, not at all blueboy. it's mainly about putting your body on the line.
as Mexican suggests this amy bird he's found should score highly on that category. konrad bartelski also scored highly in this area.
i will put this bird on the list Mexican
and the fact shes extremely hot must mean shes an extra 10 places up the list
Compare Gazza to Lineker on that criteria?
What criteria gets you marked own?
Think about the legacy they've left in their respective sports though. It's acknowledged that over the last decade they've (especially Beth) single-handedly raised the profile of the sports and inspired future generations to join. I think that's incredibly important for our future prospects.
How many members on JA now Admin? That's the number of opinions you get on a list such as this.
on the criteria you've stated how is jess ennis at 89 and gazza in the top 20
Not sure I really understand the 'heroism' thing but its your list.

Kitty. Totally a agree, I should get Peterbaey to create a list too.

none of them would come up with a better list, and i reckon 98% would come up with a worse list.
in reality though in 1990 what did we achieve 4th place in relation to what many of the athletes below gazza on your list thats nothing, what if chris hoy had come 4th in all of the 6 races he won gold in, he wouldnt be in the top 1000
But everyone would come up with a different list.
JPB - why is your list better than anyone else's?
