She should definitely be above Trott considering what she has accomplished in the last decade.
steve harmison above ryan giggs x a million that is truly, truly one of the most ridiculous things ive ever read
But Trott is still 73? Why is she higher? She's only just started her career.
steve harmison at his peak was ranked nr 1 bowler in the world.
he is the closest we have ever had to a west indies type quick bowler and before he lost it, he was devastating and played a very substantial part in england's longest sequence of test victories in their history
trott looks way more talented than pendleton. she has won as many gold medals as pendleton at 20 as pendleton has in her whole career.
he was never the best bowler in the world because shane warne and glenn mcgrath were still playing he was the 3rd best bowler in the england team behind freddie and simon jones
But Pendleton has overall accomplished way more. It shouldn't just be based on Olympic golds. Consider also the previous point about her legacy. Trott may not have even joined the sport if not for Pendleton's efforts and inspiration.
Bruno @ Number 25......
The list is definitely a clever WUM and for that reason I'm out
where's ricky hatton on your list?
It is so bad, it is the only article out 135,000 that has genuinely wound me up. Complete s

she wasnt waving photos of her and pendeleton around today, it was her and wiggins. she identified wiggins as her hero. it[s not just done on olympic medals (for example with athletes world records were taken just as seriously), but in this sport there olympic medals are their greatest benchmark achievement , albeit that they are easier to come by than medals in other sports (except for the road racers).
Bruno - he nearly knocked out mike tyson in his prime. he gave tyson the fight of his life at the time, and at that time he was the most feared man in the world. he also gave lennox lewis a close fight. he has one of the highest proportion of KO victories in the history of the heavyweight division. he was also a national sporting icon for a number of years
where's ricky hatton on your list?
hatton was close to being included. he's a candidate for some of the lower places. the fact that he is a boxer who got mugged twice puts me off him compared to some of the others. he also got his ass well and trult whooped when he should really have still been close to his peak.
but he was as popular as bruno, a better and more succesful fighter
nah. no chance. he may have been more popular than bruno with real boxing fans, but not in the population as a whole. nothing close to it. i bet you even now more people in the country remember harry carpenter's "he's hurt tyson" than remember anything about ricky hatton, other possibly than him being the boxer who got mugged in the street.
well real boxing fans are the ones that matter
i respect that point of view Rave, and maybe youve got a point. strictly on the popularity criteira though i would be right in saying that bruno is higher. i reckon he would be one of the 5 most popular sportsmen in british history at his peak.
so he scores massively on bravery and public acclaim.
he also has that KO record which is one of the highest in boxing history.

What about Stephen Roche, the first rider from the British Isles to win the Tour de France
Admin, Admin,Admin stop now for your health's sake
i forgot about stephen roche. there was something nagging me about the tour de france, and that was it. phil ligget shouting "and it's stephen roche" is one of my favourite sporting moments i think.
