when Pujara, on eight, got a leading edge off Tim Bresnan. James Anderson rushed in from mid-on, only for the ball to loop over his head.

When are England going to learn that pace bowlers, especially of the pop gun speed of Bresnan are not going to take many wickets in places like Sri Lanka and India.
Just watching the highlights after work and that pitch already looks like a day 3 pitch. India have done really well to be in this position.
No way are England going to chase down any decent score on a day 5 (7/8) pitch (as much as I'd like them to) if it goes that far!

The ball was turning on day 1 - day3 ull be seeing rightangles!

That is why it is pointless having pace bowlers on these wickets.
Bresnan isn't going to frighten anyone on a bouncy pitch in the Carribean, let alone on a flat dust bowl in India.
Good point about these turners and bresnan, but think he's done ok on pitches that do a bit for the seamer was good in aus?

I'd say a bowl average of 30 says he's no mug. Granted I'm not saying he's a world beater or the person feared most in the eng attack but don't think he should be made a scapegoat.
Plus I think he's looks quite dangerous sometimes on seamer friendly wickets. Fair do he struggles in these conditions but it's only really a select few who are lethal in all conditions and even those have there off days
Have got to say good on fast bowlers who come from countries who predominantly play their cricket on pitches like this one, must be difficult sstarting out
Agreed, he shouldn't solely be made the scapegoat. Admittedly he was a bit expensive but so were Broad and to an extent, Anderson. It is just the first day, lets see what happens before we start blaming anyone.
Anderson, Broad and Bresnan hunt as a pack. They need each other to do well. One stinks, the rest will follow the suit. In other words they will only do well when rest are exerting pressure. If not they're just pop gun pacers.
On the other hand Swann and Finn do well irrespective of other's performance and ground conditions. Which tells me these two are in different league, obviously.
Batting is going to have a massive test when they get in, should be some excellent cricket in the coming days
The Indian batsman are the best players of spin of any kind so playing Monty would not have worked. His record is poor in India and without DRS he would struggled. Losing Finn was a blow cos he is the x factor but I would not panic yet cos in UAE the spin was fast turn but in India it's always slow and more predictable turn. England should make a decent reply before it gets really bad on day 4 and 5.
In fairness it was a while ago Monty played those matches, and he seems less one dimensional than he did back then. I probably would have played him over Patel
