not in india hafza. sehwag is a bad innings builder and that is what is generally required in 2nd innings. here we will have a target and hopefully it isnt a big target.

also gambhir wont open. he hasnt been on field for a whole day.

"also gambhir wont open."

Not a bad thing for india

also i have been dissapointed by ashwins bowling in this innings. has been bowling to cook on the legs and that is his strength

dont see india picking wickets today. moring session will be key tomorrow.

since india are batting last, it coulb be beneficial for england to up their rate. remember indian batsman are still not in the best of form and a quick collapse could see then in big trouble. i wud suggest like england to score 150is and then put india to bat in.

and suprisingly the fastest bowler in this match has been an indian by miles.

I think saving the game is a priority tbh

saving the game means, lasting atleast tea. u only have this 2 batsman after we reach ur bowlers. would u like ur team to score 2 runs every 2 overs or score 3runs+ an over and atleast reach a respectable score where india would be forced to draw the game?

I would rather the batsmen didn't give their wickets away looking for a scoring shot that isn't there

Alistair Cook

brilliant by England

someone on the BBC feed mentioned atherton and russell, and I think it has that kind of resonance. For want of a better phrase, a really 'life time memorable performance' today. Let's finish it tomorrow

exactly. this situation - like most - calls for playing each ball on its merits. the primary focus though - at least until 8 wickets or so are down - should be on not getting out.

Much better performance/score than I expected today so quite happy.Cook again has been outstanding,Compton looks like he will be more effective as this series develops. Was dissapointed with Trott because he is a player I really admire, was hoping for long decent score from him.Bell maybe should have stayed at home his head appears to be back home with his expecting wife. Was hoping for a big KP knock but he got out stupidly, and Patel maybe got what he deserved. And Prior again showed what a great player he is and a fantastic team player
Not really expecting a miracle tomorrow, but hoping for one.

i mean i personally feel it is 80-20 right now. if england want to save this game they will have to bat till tea minimum, and surely indian bowlers will be more fresh and pick a couple of quick ones. its not impossible to save it but will require an extraordinary performance by these 2 batsman

prior has once again proved that he's our most effective under spinning conditions, he really has to move up the order.

If we can bat until halfway through the afternoon session, and with Broad, Bresnan and Swann hopefully adding maybe 20 runs each, then we have a very good chance. Get Swann on early, put fielders round the bat, keep the seam bowling tight, don't give away easy runs, oh and take any catches that come your way. Neither team will be able to score quickly tomorrow.

i think this is where bhajji wud have a difference. overall though indian pacers bowled miles better than england pacers. even zak was clocking 85 today

The Indian pacers were better because they did what pacers do in the sub.c. The spinners bowl the bulk of the overs and the pacemen are saved for short bursts where they bowl as fast as possible and strive for reverse swing and yorkers.

England have to change their attitude. Long spells of English line and length bowling will achieve nothing and tyre the bowlers out.

but we are english !!

the english :

1. take afternoon tea
2. do not run
3. bowl thankless long spells of line and length until we drop

hafza there is no excuse though of how ur fast bowlers are slowly turning into medium pacers. this is not a subcontinent thing, england pacers lacked pace against SA aswell

posted on 18/11/12

it is a subcontinent thing though isnt it ?

finn - 90mph
bresnan - high 80s
anderson - hig 80s ?

england havent really gone in for fast bowlers since about the 60s.

the only quick bowlers i can think of who've regularly played test cricker for england since that time would be willis, early botham, malcolm. already struggling after that. harmison was mencacing, but more due to his bounce than any great pace. gough was pretty quick but not normally express. that's about it isnt it ?
