I heard a theory the other day which was interesting. Basically Cesc put out all the right signs that we could sign him which was why United made the bids they did.
But what Cesc really wanted was a better contract with Barca once the thought that he could leave would be real. If he does end up signing a new mega contract we will all see why Cesc (or his people) may have flirted with us behind the scenes.

Fellaini? Oh please no. We already have a slow midfielder in Carrick. Don't need another slow player there.
Madrid do alright with Khadira and Alonso in the middle.
Munich to alright with Martinez and Sweinstiger in the middle.
Barca have done alright with Busquets and Xavi in the middle.
Pace isn't everything.
Khedira maybe a donkey but he has pace. Schweini is very fast and Barcelona are just barcelona.
Fellaini is just a cumbersome oaf who can pass a bit and get on end of crosses.

If we want to play him we'll have to drop Carrick. Can't have two defensive midfielders who are slow play together.
Drop Carrick and play MF along with another dynamic player like Ando, Clev then its ok.
Pace isn't everything..

Oh but it is BB, if like Wayne your knowledge of football is based on FIFA13.
I rate Anderson, nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't be laughing at people Mr I go to games so I'm a better fan than you. Arguably one of the silliest posts ever made on here
French don't you know anything!?!?
Strength is the new pace on FIFA 13…
Mudd I have 3 season tickets so I'm a 3 times better fan than SE
He will be a great signing and will allow us to play 4 attacking players in most games. Which is something I like to see.
It seems it is only the usual suspects on here that don't rate him, based solely on the crime of not being world class.....
Now he has also been labelled a crab by W&R, I think that he will be a great success for us.
Wayne doesn't play Fifa, he plays Sensible Soccer (which is pretty ironic)
So, has the club finally come out of its we can buy who we want, embarrassed themselves with their pursuit of Fabregas and just bring in who we all knew the minute Moyes came in who we were most likely to get?!
I can't believe I'm on the side of Wayne and Robin, but I would not be slightly pleased with the Fellaini signing, just because he's tall and bullied our midfield [which isn't exactly much of an achievement], a lot of people want him.
He's not going to be a great signing and I personally feel any 'excitement', is out of sheer desperation with our lack of activity.
JSPC,
A crab that bosses us ever time we play Everton

How is it embarrassing we went after Fabregas? He's a top player and the club thought they could get him. The club should be applauded for being ambitious.
We were ambitious when buying Cantona, Andy Cole and RVP (3 signings thought impossible at the time) and they paid off. Cesc didn't but you can't win them all.
I'd be more embarrassed if we went for the likes of Lee Cattermole and were rejected!
is the cesc deal actually dead?
i havent read anything to confirm it is.
I don't get how he is any better than Anderson and Cleverley apart from kicking people and getting on the end of crosses.

There are lots of things you don't get.
i think for 23 million we could do a lot better.
it would trigger the gundogan release clause ( we may not get him but its worth a go)
we could get gustavo and have plenty of spare change
we could get plenty with that kind of cash who are better than fellaini.
Some of our worst performances last season were when our midfield was being bypassed by the opposition. When we would just be booting the ball from defence up the pitch in the hope that anybody could get on the end of it. If Carrick and Fellaini play together in midfield then hopefully that will eliminate that problem where we ended up looking embarrassingly bad.
Although we do seem to be moving away from emphasis on the wings. At our height we had Ronaldo and Giggs, now we have Kagawa or Rooney on the left and Nani who has rarely put in a good run of performances without being interrupted with injury and Valencia who was inept last season.
