As a deep lying midfielder though, what does he offer that Ando or Cleverley don't?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Strength on the ball and decent technique. Look at the video on exactly the 4 minute mark and you'll see him 'do' Yaya Toure in a way that you'd never see Cleverley or Anderson do.
what does he offer that Ando or Cleverley don't?

Goals and physicality for a start. Even as a CB he would score more than both of them combined, do not under-estimate the advantages both offensively and defensively of having a strong aerial prowess.
RvPs corners more or less won us the title last season.
Strength on the ball and decent technique
----------------------
Strength ill give you, but Ando and Clev also have decent technique - it should be pretty much a given for any midfielder we go after. Aside from that, he lacks the mobility, and the ability press high up the pitch and play at a high tempo that the other two do have.
As I said, as a defensive midfielder, he is an inferior version of Carrick.
Aerial prowess, great. That isn't going to stop our midfield getting overrun.
Ando has great strength on the ball.
As I said, as a defensive midfielder, he is an inferior version of Carrick.
-
Surely he'd be used box-to-box... he's better than anyone we have for that.
Aerial prowess, great. That isn't going to stop our midfield getting overrun.

Neither would Fabregas
Neither would Fabregas
--------------
Why not? Fabregas is an exceptional footballer who keeps possession better than most players on the planet.
Our midfield is often overrun because once we get the ball upfield to Rooneys feet he loses it a lot of the time and the opposition get the ball back and start another attack putting us under more pressure.
Now Rooney looks to be leaving and Kagawa will be at the top of that midfield 3, he will treat the ball with a bit more respect and having Carrick and Fellaini behind him (offering different strengths) we'll have a much more effective midfield.

He's also weak in the tackle and despite being able to pick a pass isn't a fantastic reader of the game.
He never managed to stop us whenever we played Arsenal.
"There are no bids," the Liverpool Echo quoted him as saying. "When you read that someone is interested in someone, it doesn't mean there is a bid on the table.
"Marouane has been working really hard. Leighton Baines has been working really hard for the team and that's all that matters.
"Headlines in the media happen at this time of the season unfortunately but it won't distract me from the work we have to do. I'm not bothered at all.
"It is speculation in the media and you'll never stop that. I've said from day one as a manager you only concentrate on working hard. I don't mind having my players grabbing headlines. That's a good story because it means they've been doing well and performing well.
"I'm only concentrating on having as strong a squad as possible for the start of the season. That's all my concern is."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roberto Martinez on Fellaini.
Hardly him saying 'we won't sell them'!
"isn't a fantastic reader of the game."
Come off it.
Come off it? Would be reasonable to say the same about all of your anti-Fellaini comments
Are my anti-Fellaini comments untrue?
Yes they are. They are the biased opinions of someone who wanted Fabregas and is spitting his dummy out..

Oh stop it mate.
Fabregas would've been great, but I never really thought we were going to get him.
I don't think Fellaini is the right midfielder for us, that's it. How can you call that 'spitting my dummy out?' As I said earlier on this thread, id be reasonably happy with Cabaye.
Excellent control? Do you know what Excellent control is? Berbatov has Excellent control.
Fellaini's control is like Andy Carroll's

Cabaye has a worse pass attempt and conversion rate than all of Cleverley, Anderson and Carrick.
He also has a worse tackle success rate than Carrick and Cleverley.
As I said, as a defensive midfielder, he is an inferior version of Carrick.
--------------------------
Inferior or not, at least he does offer up an alternative to Carrick, something we have not had since Fletch got ill.
It has been said countless times that if Carrick gets injured, we are up shít creek. Well, if we sign Fellaini, we will have a player that, while not techincally as good as Carrick, can certainly play that position and do it well (in a few aspects, better even than Carrick... eg, he doesn't get flustered under pressure like Michael sometimes does).
As much as i'd love Fabregas.... I think a CM squad of Carrick, Fellaini, Ando and Clevs offers up a better balance of positions and styles that suit the UTD play.
Most people see Kagawa as the AMF / #10 next season, but fail to realise that if we played Kagawa ahead of Carrick and Fabregas, we would be just as easily bypassed as before. Carrick and Fellaini would bring the best out of a player like Kagawa and allow him alot of freedom.

.................
I can say my hatred for fellaini has remained constant. If he was going to be used as a target man, I would be saying buy him. In fact if I was a team like spurs I would take the gamble of him as a striker full time, he would actually be worth 23 million.
But to put him midfield is a ridiculous joke. All the statements how he is better than you think technically, and more dynamic than you think reminds me of people defending peter crouch. Moyes used him so well to get the best of his abilities, which says more about moyes to me than fellaini. He will be so awful with martinez.
Rubbish on carrick getting injured. I will say it for the millionth time, the last time our midfield looked decent, carrick was not in it. People have such an idiotic sky is falling mentality on some of the most replaceable players. Carrick would be replaced so quickly and easily. The only thing carrick has ahead of any other midfielder on this team is fitness. That is his main skill.
Lets not get into the habit of hyping players doing things we see everyday. It causes unnecessary delusions.
