Dartford regularly sell out for games against youth teams in pre season friendlies. Spurs or Arsenal rock up at Princes Park and everyone wants to see it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Is this not 'Arsenal XI' or 'Tottenham XI' though? I've been to a couple of these pre season friendlies, with promise of seeing a couple of first team players, only to be disappointed when it's just a squad full of young players that I've never heard of or never will hear of again. Admittedly it gets the crowds in, but these are one of games. Turn it into a regular season fixture and fans are going to know what they are getting.

These 2 turned out to be astute signings which wouldn't have been able to be made if both Norwich and West Ham had 'B' teams playing a division up...

---

It's only 10 teams.. I can't imagine either of those sides will feature, I expect the ones we're taking about ashtray restrict loans to the same division or one lower, often they go abroad to experience top flight football.

Proof that the B teams will not beat all before them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Proof that the whole thing could potentially be a bit of joke.

Who cares as long as it produces more English players?

That's the point of all this after all.

It is teams of youth players, and is advertised as such. It is well known no first team players will be involved, although Harry Kane and Abel Taraabt both played for Spurs.

Dartford beat Arsenals B team, btw.

I care. It is belittling lower league clubs. I'd much rather see Luton play against real clubs rather than Premier League B teams.

Isn't the point of going to watch your own team not the opposition?

I don't think attendances will go down because it's a b team.

Plus even if the attendances do go down, it's likely the teams will still be better off given the money that will go into the lower divisions as a result of this change.

But it is undeniable that when a 'big club' like Wolves drops down the leagues home attendances go up for their opposition when Wolves are in town.

Yes, it is and i'll support Luton no matter what team they're playing against. But my point still stands that it is belittling to the smaller clubs.

"Isn't the point of going to watch your own team not the opposition? "

With all due respect Darren, that strikes me as a fairly naive thing to say. Why do you think attendances generally go up (massively) when clubs get promoted? It's not because the tickets cost more.

Maybe our Allen dreaming friend here may attend every Luton game, I'm sure even he'll admit the turn out is better when a huge club is in town.

True, DJ.

We all, that may be, but then it just becomes a problem of ethics rather than what is actually good for the game.

I think this is good for English football and will provide the country with a bigger pool of talent and will likely give lower league clubs more money from which they can advance their clubs.

Of course it's heavily waited towards the elite clubs in England, but it's been like that in England long before the proposal of b teams was mentioned, so it's not as if anything is changing.

posted on 8/5/14

HenrysCat, it was more to do with the idea that attendances will suddenly go down loads because they're playing b teams because they'll likely have an average attendance that go anyway.

Belittling, really?

No doubt the media will go into a frenzy for this for a couple of seasons at least, it'll probably get its own feature on sky and some decent sponsorship.

It's not as if you'll get beaten every week

Yet you also support one of the biggest clubs in the world. Am I wrong in thinking this is a bit hypocritical?

What does that have to do with the fact that I'm against the idea? Yes, I can see the benefits to Liverpool, but that doesn't change my stance.

The benefits to all of the PL teams will filter into the national side.. there seems to be a divide between the lower league and prem sides here which misses the point.

posted on 8/5/14

It doesn't miss the point, it creates a huge divide in opinion about the point.

posted on 8/5/14

Much as you couldn't give a toss about 'a few poorly supported clubs in the conference', Pavlyuchenko, some of the fans of those clubs might not give a toss about the benefits to the national side.

We all dream of a team of Allens

Would the earlier suggestion of a fee payable by sides that wish to enter a B team, and be spread amongst the lower leagues make the idea more attractive?

I think there is already a strong argument that such a league will generate more interest, and therefore cash, for the teams involved anyway.

I was speaking on behalf of every football fan that is not worried about this and wants to see England improve. I think there are more of those than sceptics who talk of "belittling" while ignoring the valid reasons behind the suggestion.

We are all dreaming...

On one hand you are fighting the fight for small teams like Luton, yet you also chase the glamour of the PL and big teams.
That is why it is hypocritical. You want the best of both worlds while trying to stop others having the same.

Having B sides in the lower leagues will increase attendances and also the competitive nature of the lower divisions, more sides will be inclined to play football and it will also toughen up young players

Alex Pritchard has said how grateful he was to be at Swindon for the season as it's made him a stringer player both in body and mentally

I'm all for it, works in Italy and Spain, there's no issue here

Why will they 'be more inclined to play football'?
