Does every reserve side need to be two divisions below? For example where A team gets relegated from championship and B team gets promoted from league 1 could they just use the B team to play in the championship?
Stoke are one of the clubs pushing for B team, in reference to Boss's comment.
It is a great idea, will help English football alot.
Also more players produced by the prem clubs will reduce the market, that's a good things prices for English players will drop.
Again the commercial benefits for the league structure could be huge..
Prem could go further as a sign of goodwill and apportion all leftover parachute payments after re-promotion to prem rather than the club's only being eligible for one payment per year.

Wish the real Stoke would fack off to the lower leagues.
Just seen that the first League 3 would be 10 B teams and 10 Conference teams.
This report looks like Abramovich, Glazer and Kroenke's christmas wish-list. The Posh's chairman is certainly letting his feelings known.

Only prem clubs will have b teams...
So this would never happen! Presumably all that happens is that there is an under 21's league and that will exclude prem teams who instead have a b team in the league structure..
Get promoted to prem and you shift your u21's to the league structure, get relegated and they rejoin the u21's leagues.
not every club in the prem will have to have a b team... its optional.
some clubs that are promoted from championship only just have enough players to fill up their prem squad, never mind having to field a B squad as well...
Also, to answer a common question ive noticed, the B squad will also be "registered" as is every other of the current 92 clubs in top 4 flights, so A teams wont be able to just take players outside the transfer period.
I would guess thered only really be 10 guaranteed B teams at this moment (United, City, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton, Liverpool, Arsenal, Southampton, newcastle and west ham) with so many of the other clubs either unsure if theyll be prem in 3 years (villa, norwich, hull, west brom... no offense) or not actually be prem if they dont return (cardiff, fulham etc).
ps, i threw west ham in cause i was struggling to find a 10th that might not get relegated in the next 3 seasons... which begs the question why i included newcastle, but hey..
Everyone is discussing how high B teams will go, but probably the more relevant question is how low will they go? Will clubs be interested in B teams if they find themselves in the Ryman Premier League within a few years?
But again, it depends how it works, all of those teams have an under 21 team, presumably this is just moving those under 21's to a different league!!
These clubs are not going be second teams in the sense they have their own first team.. Under 21.. Under 18 etc.. They are literally going to be a squad of 24? Players from the parent clubs u21's
At least that's how it works in Spain?
@ Marcelino...
League 3 will just be the next step on the ladder where League 2 is now... makes no odds to the long hard seasons Conference teams play at the moment.
if the chaaaavs play their A team maybe they could win something for Mourinho
Yep we probably will win it our second team will be in the PL in a few years.

I think being up at 4am writing about Willian has caused you to misread some of the key points of this proposal.
How do they pick which club's B team is selected for the notional 10 'lucky' ones (assuming the parent club takes it's share of gate receipts, which in itself seems a bit mean, but they are entitled to them)? Would it be based on the A team's finish in the seson prior to all this happening?

I think that will probably be the case.
A better system though, seeing as it's just a shift of the u 21's squads to the league structure would be to givebfirst refusal to the top 10 finishing teams in the prior u21 league season.. That will reward the best youth systems..

process of elimination means the following:
it wont be the 3 teams relegated and they it wont be the 3 newly promoted teams. Thats 6 of 20 out of it.
This leaves 14. Not all of which will want a B team, so we shall remove another 1.
We are left with 13.
Its fairly logical to assume that the champions will get 1 as will the other 3 Champions league teams.
Now we just need to find our way through the remaining 9 teams for 6 places.
How B teams work in Europe?
Spain
Reserve teams play in the same league system as the senior sides but must operate at least one level below the first team, and they cannot be promoted to the top flight.
A reserve team can still be relegated in the normal manner, and also if their senior team is relegated from the league above.
B teams are ineligible for cup competitions.

Seems quite simple really...

but this sounds better and fairer, so lets go with this.

10 B's will go directly into the new League 3 and 10 more B's will surely replace the 10 Conference teams that go to League 3 in the Conference?
