How do you know Kabak was available throughout all of January? Do you have a tap in to Schalke's transfer business?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Schalke in financial difficulties is common knowledge. We just didn't bother approaching them till deadline day because Matip was almost fit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just grasping at thin air.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So how did we get Kabak then? Schalke could have got Mustafi anytime in Jan.

That doesn't mean that he was available at any other time during January though. They can't just sell of their players off and not have any replacements set up who may not have been available at the time the club wanted Kabak.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
VVD and Gomez out for the season
Matip at the time had his 5th injury
Klopp was playing Hendo and Fab in defense
Klopp said if you lost your 2 main CB then you would expect a new defender in the window
FSG/Committee delayed and delayed and only when it was obvious Matip wont make it they bought Kabak and that championship player.

Absolutely apart from sign two players
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can sign a 100 players if they are all Championship standard it's the equivalent of doing nothing. Davies was an oh sheit the fans are getting rowdy signing, do something for minimum spend.
So the one good thing they did is loan a youngster. I like Kabak and hope we sign him for future, but he is not ready to be first team yet, he would be 3rd or 4th in a fully fit squad. Signing one first team defender should be the absolute minimum you do for the manager who works wonders despite their ownership.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who would you have signed? Klopp literally said it without saying it. Nobody who would be deemed suitable for our long term planning was available at that point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Klopp regularly covers for the owners in public, he doesn't like showing disagreements in public.

But what is to say that Mustafi was available any earlier in January? Forget how Schalke operate, it's not down to them, it was down to Arsenal. Maybe they couldn't agree a fee during the window? Maybe they couldn't agree on wages? Who knows.
But it's not as simple as you think, just because Schalke want somebody doesn't mean that's it.

So what? He isn't something you can just take the skip if you don't want him anymore. They still have a price for him.
You're right, they wanted rid of him, but they wanted to get his wages off the wage bill because his ability didn't represent his value. If Schalke wanted Arsenal to pay 80% of his wages until his contract (at Schalke) ran out, why would they do that? Maybe it had taken them 2 weeks to finalise that aspect, for example.
It's not just as simple as the buying clubs want, so the buying club gets. It's not Football Manager.

Do you not think any of that is for the benefit of the club? In terms of sustainability and development?

I take your point in principle, but that's also very much a completely extreme viewpoint of the clubs situation as the ethics behind a sweatshop and a football club are completely different.

No they couldn't have got him at any time in January. Why do you think they ended up with him late on in the window? On deadline day I believe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Schalke operated a one out one in policy. They didn't think anyone was coming in for Kabak in Jan. When we got Kabak, they went for Mustafi.
It's pretty simple really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But what is to say that Mustafi was available any earlier in January? Forget how Schalke operate, it's not down to them, it was down to Arsenal. Maybe they couldn't agree a fee during the window? Maybe they couldn't agree on wages? Who knows.
But it's not as simple as you think, just because Schalke want somebody doesn't mean that's it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Arsenal been trying to get Mustafi out of the door for 3 years
Bottom line is that we didnt make the move when we were desperate. One bid triggers everything. We did not allow that chain to happen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

How many more times do FSG need to scheme to penny pinch before you doubt what Klopp says to cover for them in public because dirty laundry in public isn't how we operate. Furlough, trademarking the word Liverpool, Big Picture, ticket prices, ESL. They are sc um.

Do you not think any of that is for the benefit of the club? In terms of sustainability and development?

I take your point in principle, but that's also very much a completely extreme viewpoint of the clubs situation as the ethics behind a sweatshop and a football club are completely different.
